Just heard on BBC News that Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn has died. Can’t find anything yet on the internet about it. Maybe I’m spelling his name incorrectly.EDIT: I was. My father in law was an engine driver during the war transporting arms, tanks, ammo and army personel to and from redhill London and Dover. As a reserved Occupation, He was constantly under threat of bombing etc and I have written to the Medal Office to see if he could have been eligable for the Defence Medal. I haven’t heard as yet, but does anyone know of any Engine Drivers getting awarded any medals? I’m sure he deserved one but the rules are not clear for the award? ... more

Where very few of these ever made? information sought on these largely ignored vehicles. Any info or pictures would be good. Guite interesting that there was no corropsonding vehicle in any other forces inventory, i wonder how effective and usefull these where. Kev ... more

If Britain and France hadn’t declared war on Germany after the invasion of Poland, would Hitler have forgone an invasion to the west and simply invaded the Soviet Union earlier, or would he have still felt sufficiently threatened by France to warrant a campaign on that front? An even more interesting scenario for me is that I think Hitler could have invaded the Soviet Union without first dealing with France.
