The Canadian government has advised against all holiday and non-essential travel to Zimbabwe until talks between the MDC and ZANU PF are concluded.

“Following the presidential run-off election which took place on June 27, 2008, there has been ongoing talks between the main political parties in Zimbabwe. As the outcome has yet to be determined, the political situation remains unpredictable. Travellers should be aware that the situation could deteriorate on short notice.” reads the statement posted on the Canadian Foreign Ministry website .
“Although many roadblocks have been removed throughout the country, they can be erected anywhere without notice. Canadians should drive carefully and be very cooperative at all times. Residents and visitors could be subject of arbitrary detention or arrest.
