August is for holidaying not for blogging, so I have to apologise once again to those who have been eagerly awaiting my pearls of wisdom, only to find nothing offered. I have noticed that some blogger announce their holidays beforehand on their blogs by saying things such as I will be away next week so blogging will be light. Is this a wise thing to do? It wouldn’t take a genius with a telephone directory or an electoral role to work out where I live. Isn’t an announcement that I won’t be blogging often over the next few months because I am taking a first class world cruise, telling potential baddies who might read my blog that they are free to come and pinch the family silver? The Differences Between American, British, and Australian English
From: staynbusy.1collegesource.com
Post Date: 2008-12-02 02:19:29

by Amy Nutt Australia, Great Britain, and America all speak the same language, but you simply have to visit each country to realize that, while they all speak English, it is far from a universal language. The English spoken in Great Britain, America, and Australia has many similarities, but a surprising number of differences as well. The main reason for this is the vast distance between each country. Here are some of the common differences you will find between these three versions of English... more

A new world order arising

When President George Bush, the Elder, declared his intention to create a new world order, he had to back away quickly and never mentioned the phrase again. Not only did he sound like the resurrection of Adolph Hitler, but wiser heads in his Cabinet understood that world order is not a subjective thing that can be placed or displaced at will. Like anything else, the creation of a new world order rests on the introduction of something new. It is not imposed, but arises on the basis o... more

Tomorrow night we’ll hear from Kirsty Williams AM with her ideas as to where the Welsh Liberal Democrats need to go, a message attacking the "patrician smugness" of the Labour Party and the "gloopy grey consensus of the Cardiff Bay bubble" that some suspect is a bid for the party’s leadership once Lord Mike steps down at some unspecified point next year.... more

Its late and I’m just catching up with the Sundays. Ffion has been dominating. She arrived this morning, and we sat for a while just looking at the greater spotted on the nut feeder. And then it was feeding time. Later in the afternoon it was bath time. Five weeks old and this was a first for me. She absolutely loved it. Cute or what! And then it was Strictly Come Dancing, when Ffion was ’dumped’ on me because she was seriously agitated about something. I accept that I am ... more
Who’s the Leader

Nothing pleases my old friend from Newport, Councillor Peter Davies more than causing a bit of a rumpus. So he will be quite pleased that his letter to the Western Mail on Saturday has prompted some discussion in the blogosphere. I have not seen the letter, but I understand the gist of it to be questioning who’s the Leader of the Conservative Party in Wales. I’ve heard this question asked several times before. It seems to me to be straight forward. David Cameron is the Leader of th... more

Nuclear Quartet What have Richard Caborn MP, Ian McCartney, Lord O’Neill  and former energy minister Brian Wilson in common? They achieved high office without any obvious talent - with the possible exception of Wilson. A prize of a bag of House of Commons humbugs is on offer to the first reader who can recall anything original said by any of them. Now they share the rich delights of semi retirement jobs promoting nuclear power. Ian McCartney is an ’adviser’, &... more
