Prometedores resultados de un estudio que puso a prueba un nuevo enfoque para revertir la diabetes tipo I se han presentado a la American Diabetes Association’s 68a Sesión Científica Anual en San Francisco.
El estudio probó la combinación de Lisofylline (LSF), un fármaco que se está desarrollando para detener el daño inmunológico a las células productoras de insulina, y Islet Neogenesis Associated Protein peptide (INGAP), un medicamento basado en una proteína natural producida por el páncreas.
El estudio se realizó en la Universidad de Virginia por un equipo de científicos dirigido por Jerry L. Nadler, MD Actualmente es Director de Endocrinología y Metabolismo en la Universidad de Virginia, Nadler se unirá a la facultad del Este de Virginia Medical School (EVMS), en julio como presidente del Departamento de Medicina Interna y jefe de la EVMS Strelitz Diabetes Center.

Researchers at the University of California, San Francisco have reported that two common cancer drugs have been used to block and reverse type 1 diabetes in mice. The JDRF-funded study, published in The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, was led by Jeffrey Bluestone, Ph.D., director of the Diabetes Center at UCSF and an expert in the field of autoimmunity.
