This post is a continuation of “ Oil Oil Everywhere and Not a Drop to Drink ,” which will now be considered a series.
Three Options
Option One: Conserve Energy
Can we conserve enough energy to end our dependence on foreign oil? How do we conserve energy? Should energy conservation be mandated by law? What is the best policy? As I begin to write this section, I don’t know of any clear answers to this question. I don’t know if we can conserve enough energy to be “independent,” but I don’t think conservation is the answer alone. It seems that this answer has to be part of an eclectic approach if it is to be effective, but that it must be part of the answer. But to really be able to take a stand on this issue I need to address a few question.
How do we conserve energy?
Starting out this research I knew of two mandates that were possible: 1) banning incandescent light bulbs and 2) raising CAFE standards on cars. I also knew of volu...

This holiday season if you absolutely must give someone an electronic gizmo for a present (I would suggest a book, or something you made yourself) you should be sure that said gizmo is marked with the Energy Star labele, you are helping someone save money on their energy bill and protect the environment by fighting climate change.
In fact, the typical homeowner can save more than 30 percent, or about $700 on annual energy bills with Energy Star labeled products. EPA has identified a fe... more

Water Heater is the second largest contributor to the energy bill after the air conditioner/central heat. Water has high heat capacity, so it takes a lot of energy to heat it up. For example, it takes one kilowatt-hour to warm up about 10 gallons of water from 80F to 120F. Your electric or gas bill is noticeably affected by how much hot water you use in your house. That includes showering, clothes washer, dishwasher. Here are some general guidelines for how you can reduce your water heate... more
Global climate changes could lead to violence : Experts say it will accelerate the race for food, water
KANSAS CITY, MO. — A warmer planet could find itself more often at war.
The Earth’s fast-changing climate has a range of serious thinkers — from military brass to geographers to diplomats — predicting a spate of armed conflicts driven by the weather.
Shifting temperatures lead to shifting populations, they say, and that throws together groups with long-standing rivalrie... more

After eight long of years of diddly squat in terms of environmental legislation (unless you count the flurry of 11th hour regulations set to exploit America’s public lands), green-minded folks are pumped for Obama to take office. While environmentalists, utility companies, and manufacturers dominated the energy discussion during Dubya’s administration, a growing number of sectors are making sure their voices are heard in the new administration. Five US companies announced yes... more

Seeing the impacts of our choices and watching the earth wearing down, I couldn’t help but think of how and what I could change to start leaving a positive imprint. Conserving energy seemed to stick out most, but still how can I, just one person make a change that will really impact the earth? If we all take the time and look around us, we can see how we have impacted the world. Wheter good or bad, we can see it. The good news is we have the power to change it.

Clean Energy Confronts Messy Reality
President-elect Barack Obama has vowed to promote clean and renewable energy, reiterating this week that his "presidency will mark a new chapter in America’s leadership on climate change."
But the nation’s power companies suddenly are struggling to turn that promise into reality.
"Funding has stalled," says Ezra Green, chief executive of Clear Skies Solar Inc. The New Y... more
FOR a company whose business is rocket science Lockheed Martin has been paying unusual attention to plumbing of late. The aerospace giant has kept its engineers occupied for the past 12 months poring over designs for what amounts to a very long fibreglass pipe.of course, no ordinary pipe but an integral part of the technology.

As I pointed out in my post about the hypocrisy of the US’s adversarial policy toward Cuba, but not China, China is not a country that abides by any standard that the West should see as Humane. This is further proven in there direct oppression of the Tibetan people, which continues to this day . The world ought to be standing beside Tibet in demanding that China treat the Tibetan people fairly, including giving Tibet its sovereignty back. As we saw with Burma , oppressive govern... more
Where to begin? Spitzer, Spitzer, Spitzer… Well… Here’s the thing, Spitzer, some of us voted for you. I for one did, sadly, and you’ve really done an excellent job of proving your enemies right. I thought that you were fighting for what you thought was right and that you weren’t afraid to take on powerful people. I don’t care that you go to prostitutes. Honestly, I’d be fine with prostitution being legal. After all, how does it actually effect m... more
A funny thing has happened in the last five years. The American people were very much in favor of invading Iraq prior to the invasion, and now the vast majority of us believe this to be a mistake. I am most definitely one who supported the war in Iraq. I supported it because I thought there was a real threat from terrorist (which I still do) and because I felt that we needed to set an example that would force regimes like Iraq’s, North Korea and others into compliance. I was w... more
Now, I’ve seen some blatantly personal and biased accounts come from ex-employees of the Bush administration. There are plenty. The accounts of these fired employees are questionable from the start because they were fired. But Douglas Feith is now trying to blame everyone for the mess in Iraq except the Pentagon ?!?!?! Are you joking? Now this book comes out next month, so obviously I haven’t read it. I have to go off this article . Assuming that this article accurately rep... more
