Last week at the American Library Association Annual Conference I heard Leticia Camancho, a business librarian from BYU, talk about embedding herself in Blackboard as a T.A. in business courses, which then connected her with the ability to use CourseFeed , an application in Facebook, which in turn allowed her to send information directly to students’ Facebook News Feeds! I must admit I have not used CourseFeed (which makes this a highly unusual infodoodads post). But I’m highly intrigued. Has anybody out there used it? What are your thoughts? Upsides, downsides, problems, etc?? I’m currently wondering how I’d find out of our school is signed up to use CourseFeed? Here’s a small blurb from the CourseFeed website, “Students go to class to both socialize and learn. CourseFeed combines actual learning content...

News has surfaced from Kara Swisher at AllThingsDigital about apparent talks that had been ongoing between Twitter and Facebook. Under the discussed terms, Facebook would have acquired the micro-blogging site for $500 million in Facebook stock. Facebook initiated the talks in mid-October, but they seemed to have broken off sometime around the beginning of this month. The reasons for the breakdown in talks was the typical merger concerns over integration and whatnot. However, it also appears a... more

Carrot - “C” is for Clustering
From: feeds.feedburner.com

Many of you may be familiar with clustering search engines because of the clustering search engine Clusty ( reviewed by Laurie earlier). If you are looking for other clustering options, you might give Carrot a try. Created in Switzerland (I believe we’re into a bit of a European theme for the week), Carrot allows you to see how your search results are sorted by subject (you can also sort by sources and sites, but I did not find this to be helpful). This m... more
Google Sites - the glue for Google Apps

Post Date: 2008-03-05 22:30:19

Google Sites launched last week , and I was hoping someone would come along and explain it to me. What I understand of it so far is that it is the missing piece of Google Apps . Organizations, small businesses and schools can sign up for Google Apps for group access to Gmail, Google Talk, Google Calendar and Google Docs. With Google Sites, Google Apps users can build websites that glue all the applications together so that everyone in the group can collaborate and contribute to the site ... more

Ever need a little help sticking to and meeting a goal? stickK.com is here to help. You may have heard of this site since it has gotten plenty of press lately. Essentially the site walks you through setting up a contract with yourself or a friend to meet a goal. For example, I might commit to exercising 3x per week for the next 12 weeks. Sounds easy enough, but why would I need a website to help me? Let’s say I sweeten the deal and bet someone to whom I would feel beholden if I lost a... more

Are you as annoyed with Evite as I am?  You have to sign in, ask your guests to sign in, then you get annoying banner ads and the customization is minimal?  Well, if you have a hankering to customize your invites, and you don’t want your guests to be forced to sign-in and view banner ads then you are going to love crusher !  Crusher has been getting a lot of great press since they launched in December.  Check out this AWESOME example I made!! ... more
