A few days ago, the following cartoon by Stuart Carlson appeared in Slate : Now, life is imitating art: Police in southern China have discovered a factory manufacturing Free Tibet flags, media reports say. The factory in Guangdong had been completing overseas orders for the flag of the Tibetan government-in-exile. Workers said they thought they were just making colourful flags and did not realise their meaning. But then some of them saw TV images of protesters holding the emblem and they alerted the authorities, according to Hong Kong’s Ming Pao newspaper. [ BBC ] Globalization works!

HDFC, HSBC and Reliance Communications
From: vivekspace.com
Post Date: 2008-04-17 20:51:53

The three companies named in the title of this post - HDFC , HSBC and Reliance Communications - have all been sending confidential customer data of other customers to me by e-mail. I am not, have never been, and now, I’ll never be their customer. This post is just to archive their deeds and serve as a reminder to me if I ever get the idea of using their services in future. HSBC stopped sending me transaction statements after my complaints, but continued to bombard me with marketi... more

The next article in the series would probably appear in 2009. If you ask around, almost everyone will have something to say about how to stop the tigers from becoming extinct. What nobody would... more
Dealing With Google Calendar Spam

This is the latest variety of spam - and one that is not easy to get rid of. The spammer creates a fake event (for a wide range of dates) and sends the invite to a large number of e-mail addresses. The event description is no different from the regular spam messages that one gets. The 419ers seem to be the first off the block, but soon the others will catch up. So, expect to get invitations for “[Body Part] Enhancement” events in the near future! This event then show... more
Democratizing Healthcare and Development in India
From: vivekspace.com
Post Date: 2008-03-31 21:48:59

The Piramal Foundation is running a business plan competition with a difference: the Piramal Prize for innovations in democratizing healthcare in India. I have discovered it only recently, hence the delay in posting about it (the last date for Stage 1 has now been moved from April 1 to April 11 , so hurry up - you just need the broad idea right now). Even if you have no interest in sending an entry, you could mentor a participant or just comment on the entries (which ar... more
