I know the NYC Housing and Preservation Department’s bed bug seminars are not perfect.  But wouldn’t you rather your neighbors had access to one, rather than not? I say yes, especially if you live in Greenpoint.  Greenpointers and their Williamsburg neighbors are seriously bedbugged. So, Miss Heather of newyorkshitty.com and her friend Ann Kansfield (the Co-Pastor of the Greenpoint Reformed Church) worked together and got HPD to agree to come to Greenpoint.  So far, this is the second HPD bed bug seminar to be announced in Brooklyn.  (The first to happen will be on 3/12, next Wednesday, in Bushwick.) The Greenpoint bed bug seminar will be on May 6th from 6-8pm.  This announcement comes from Ann Kansfield, via Miss Heather’s blog, so I would not call HPD to sign up just yet. As I have previously mentioned the MIster and I spent our Black Friday in Jackson Heights. Follow are a few sights I found of interest. Enjoy! Krishna, Radha and surveillance camera a la 74th Street. The first family elect holds court on 82nd Street. Here’s a few Roosevelt Avenue sombreros. I love this guy. And last but hardly least. This item is by far the best bit of Obamabilia I have seen to date. Screw the New York Times, at Chez Shitty... more

Booklice vs. bed bug nymphs
From: feeds.feedburner.com
Post Date: 2008-03-04 13:44:19

This is a booklouse. Several bedbuggers have mistaken them for bed bug nymphs. Notice the shape of the body is elongated, with three clear segments.  There’s a pronounced head. Compare this photo from L. Sorkin and R. Mercurio of a bed bug nymph: Both are light colored but the bed bug nymph has a less elongated body.  It doesn’t look like it has a neck, whereas the booklouse does.  The bed bug nymph is clear but will become red when it has fed. Bed bugs bite gospel group, Milford, Connecticut
From: feeds.feedburner.com
Post Date: 2008-03-09 08:06:16

A gospel music group, Doc Mackenzie and the Hi-Lites , claim they were bitten by bed bugs in a Comfort Inn in Milford, Connecticut, according to News Channel 8 (WTNH).   (Click the tiny video camera symbol to see the report.) The group was in town for a concert and had a music video to shoot that day. Several members had allergic reactions including swollen eyes. Some of the men caught several bed bug samples in a jar. Maybe they’ll call the health department? T... more
Bed bug dogs in the news

Lots of press abounding on the busy bed bug dogs at Advanced k9, based in Connecticut.  There have been a number of other articles this week along the same lines. Bed bugs are very difficult to detect and a bed bug sniffing dog does appear to give you a really good shot at detecting bed bugs in the home or in a business. But I am not sure hotelchatter.com is right in suggesting dogs have a 100% success rate in sniffing out bed bugs.  Is this really possible?! Similar Posts: ... more
