Indonesian police officers grilled in illegal logging case

Jakarta - More than a dozen senior police officers have been
grilled for their alleged roles in illegal logging in West Kalimantan
province on the Indonesian portion of Borneo island, local media
reports said Wednesday.
National police chief General Sutanto had vowed to take legal
action against any police officer involved in illegal logging or log
smuggling in the country.
‘We want to deal with illegal logging activities conclusively.
Whoever is suspected to be involved will be investigated,’ the
state-run Antara news agency quoted Sutanto as saying.
At least 14 police officers in West Kalimantan province were being
held at the national police headquarters in Jakarta for questioning,
he said.

TORONTO - A man who threatened to blow himself up inside his car on Highway 400 faces several charges after surrendering to police.

DALLAS - U.S. federal regulators said Thursday they will seek a civil penalty of US$10.2 million - the largest ever - against Southwest Airlines Co. for failing to inspect older planes for cracks and then flying them before inspections were done.
The FAA said Southwest operated nearly 60,000 flights in 2006 and 2007 using 46 planes that had missed inspections for possible fatigue-related cracking on the fuselage areas.

CARACAS, Venezuela - Venezuela's justice minister is blaming “anarchists” for an explosion that killed one man at the offices of the country's leading business chamber.
