Back in April of 2007, nearly a year ago, John McCain’s campaign was in trouble. The money wasn’t coming in, and, as Margaret posted on “The Caucus,” the New York Times Politics Blog on April 4, 2007: “McCain has certainly made a mess out of himself. He is for the war, insisting that there is progress…McCain is a complete loser. It may be good for the Democrats if he got the nomination. He is old. He has had cancer, which could recur. He is completely out of touch on where most Americans are on the war, and he is not conservative enough for the conservatives.” Margaret was posting in response to Sarah Wheaton’s article, which noted that “the first sign of trouble was 3 weeks ago,” which would have been right about St. Patrick’s Day, 2007…in other words, right about now, one year ago. Matters reached critical mass on July 10, 2007, when both McCain’s campaign manager ( Terry Nelson )...

Democrats may tax health benefits - The Boston Globe WASHINGTON - In the last month of the presidential campaign, it was one of Barack Obama and Joe Biden’s strongest attack lines: John McCain, they warned, would “tax your healthcare benefits for the first time ever.”But now, some Congressional Democrats in charge of health reform are talking about doing just that. ... more

Welcome to Vichy America
This was not just another election. The last time we had a presidential election, the Left tried to get a brazen traitor elected - namely John Kerry. This new President from the Left is even more than that. Obama was no traitor, because he never was really on our side in the first place. Obama was really a foreign candidate - in spirit, funding, and citizenship.

Out in California, they recalled 143 million pounds of tainted beef. That’s one triple-stacked burger at Wendy’s. A hundred forty three million pounds of tainted beef! I believe that’s the largest amount of tainted meat since Roger Clemens.”

... and the campaign knew it, since Davis’s salary was paid directly to the firm, which was also collecting $15,000 a month from Freddie Mac for providing, as far as the record shows, no services whatever, in a deal (shakedown) arranged by Davis personally.
Two lessons here:
1. The McCain campaign is a collection of crooks and liars. But that’s sort of dog-bites-man news by now.
2. The wheels are starting to come off; different factions in the campaign are now using the... more

Last night’s Hell to Pay fundraiser for Darcy Burner was a huge success. We started out with a goal of getting Darcy 3,200 donors...and we ended up with 3,643 , raising $ 25,262 ! And that total doesn’t even include the donations made to the entire slate of O2B candidates . Kudos to the community for coming together for one of our own. From DemFromCT: The tracking polls today include one full day (of three) that are post debate, and Obama is now at 50% in 3... more
You’ve seen the news:Capitol Hill sources are telling me that senior McCain people are more than concerned about Palin. The campaign has held a mock debate and a mock press conference; both are being described as "disastrous." One senior McCain aide was quoted as saying, "What are we going to do?" The McCain people want to move this first debate to some later, undetermined date, possibly never. People on the inside are saying the Alaska Governor is "clueless." Even some conservative writer... more
After reading this post, despite the trauma you will ask yourself...what more could our guest-writer, Melissa Crossley , ask for? *** I was working as a bartender in my aunts bar. I got home around two that morning, and I was feeling a little sick to my stomach. I chalked it up to my being tired and so I decided to skip dinner and head straight to bed. Me and my husband laid down, set the alarm for the next morning and before I knew it I was in the bathroom. I felt so much pressure ... more

This is a continuation of a series of posts on great comeback stories. Here Nicole Randie tells us how she transformed years of oppression into a grand coming out party... *** "You will never make it without me!" These words were coming out of my husband’s mouth as he struggled to oppress me one more time. It had been ten years of verbal abuse and constant tales of how inept I was. Before him I had my father constantly telling me the same thing. That woman had no value and co... more
As I recently read news of Pete Sampras’ decision to play an exhibition match against the invincible one - Roger Federer , I thought of a million things that could easily get me more excited. Exhibition matches are for pure entertainment and have little meaning in the "real world"; but I wondered if Pete (with 14 grand-slams to his credit) had, all of a sudden, forgotten that. I wondered if he was having fleeting glimpses of upstaging the No.1 and then topping it off ... more
