I was busy dealing with real news tonight, so I completely missed the broohaha over this incident with Stéphane Dion and ATV News. Gazette creating West Island hyper-local website
From: blog.fagstein.com
Post Date: 2008-03-04 23:19:07

I was sworn to secrecy, but Roberto’s let the cat out of the bag so he can take the flack if it’s still supposed to be a secret. The Gazette has been working on a West Island portal (called “West Island +” though its address is westislandgazette.com ), a mix of newspaper stories and user-submitted content that pretty much fits that “hyper-local” mold that everyone’s talking about these days. Its key feature is that stories are categor... more
Wikis in the news
From: blog.fagstein.com
Post Date: 2008-03-04 22:24:54

Two stories about wikis hit the news this week: Wikileaks, the anonymous-leak website that was shut down by a judge as part of a legal case against it, has won a court battle and been allowed back up . It’s a huge, precedent-setting victory for free speech and the right to expose information anonymously. Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia, publicly split with his girlfriend brief fling, and she responded in kind , dragging everything out in the open (including their pathetic cyber... more
The new, dirt-cheap Global Quebec
From: blog.fagstein.com
Post Date: 2008-03-04 19:57:39

As part of its regenesis following the cancelling of This Morning Live as well as the mass layoffs and outsourcing of technical jobs , Global Quebec this week showed off their new set for the Evening News and launched a new one-hour News Final show at 11pm. See Global Quebec’s first new evening newscast here Now, when I say “set” I’m being generous. You see, Global Quebec no longer has a set. Instead, the anchor stands in front of a giant green screen, and ... more
Things to see at YULblog tonight
From: blog.fagstein.com
Post Date: 2008-03-04 23:46:33

Tonight is yet another edition of YULblog , the monthly get-together and drink-together (and then poutine-together) of Montreal’s blogging community. I hope to make it after work, though I’m in the middle of eight consecutive shifts right now (sweet, sweet overtime money, how I will enjoy spending you) and might be semi-conscious. For those of you who haven’t been to a YULblog before, here’s an idea of some of the sights you might encounter at La Qui... more
