In his recent speech to the UN General Assembly, Iran’s President Ahmadinejad declared : The dignity, integrity and rights of the American and European people are being played with by a small but deceitful number of people called Zionists. Although they are a minuscule minority, they have been dominating an important portion of the financial and monetary centers as well as the political decision-making centers of some European countries and the US in a deceitful, complex and furtive manner. To which Barack Obama responded : I strongly condemn President Ahmadinejad’s outrageous remarks at the United Nations, and am disappointed that he had a platform to air his hateful and anti-Semitic views. Ahmadinejad Not Ill, Just Exhausted and Stressed
From: feeds.feedburner.com

Iran has rebutted reports last week that President Ahmadinejad may have a serious illness . Though I don’t know if the new line is more comforting or less.  The official Iranian news agency said the president is swell, and he is just suffering from exhaustion due to the excessive strains of his job . Perhaps not the best message to send ahead of a reelection campaign in which he will have to answer for his shaky economic record, including 30% inflation and the recent bazaar merchant st... more

Listening to a local public radio station early one morning, I happened to hear Tim Franks do a nice piece for the BBC’s “From Our Own Correspondent” series about a 79-year-old Israeli farmer and Holocaust survivor who is finally celebrating his Bar Mitzvah. At the traditional Bar Mitzvah age of 13, he was sent to Auschwitz. It helps make up for Barbara Plett’s infamous FOOC piece in which she described her tears as the murderous Yasser Arafat departed Ramallah for... more

For some time now I have found myself buying the Spectator rather than the New Statesman. Not because I am a Conservative (whatever that means nowadays) and I do still consider myself on the left (whatever that means nowadays). I buy the Spectator because it has a certain intellectual elan, and I would rather be challenged by fluent, provocative writers than the usual suspects in the Statesman. Perhaps the new editor at the Statesman, Jason Cowley, will change this. I hope so b... more

A blogger writes in response to George Monbiot ’s column : Simon Singh, one of Britain’s best science writers is being sued for daring to mention that chiropractors have little or no evidence that their mumbo jumbo works. The burden of proof needs to lie with the claimant. If you want to sue ... more
