OK, we’ve got the format(s) and “best and brightest” speaker roster set for Interactive Local Media: Extending Local Channels, which is Nov. 19-21 in Santa Clara, next to San Jose.
At the top of the list is Angie Hicks , “the Angie” from Angie’s List , and Rodney Rice from ServiceMagic . They’ll tell it all during one-on-one interviews.
More excitement is to be found on a Financial panel with Kara Nortman from IAC ; and the “Transition to the Internet” sessions with Kevin Cuddihy from Comcast ; Larry Olevitch from NBC Local ; Lem Lloyd from The Yahoo! Newspaper Consortium; and Meredith Papp from Google’s Traditional Media team.
For some people, Interactive Local Media is all about the ad nets. If that’s the case, we have three of the leaders in the vertical and local space: Russ Fradin from Cox’s Adify ; Shawn Riegsecker from Centro ; and Jason Tafler from Gannett’s PointRoll.

I am guessing there is a inferiority complex amongst smaller stations that keep them in the position of eating the crumbs from the table. But I ask, how many local TV stations can a campaign ban? I hope we see some more of these in the next week. ... more

Kara Nortman of IAC speaking at ILM 08 provided both a dose of reality as well a glimmer of hope of where media companies in the local marketplace are headed. Kara’s view of what is working well include sites that are building great organic traffic rather than relying on paid traffic, offer a unique distribution strategy at a cost efficient price point and offering some level of a self-serve model to attract those customers who cannot be affordably reached on the local level.

While other media companies stave off bill collectors and even bankruptcy, Gannett is taking advantage of its cash reserves to buy larger shares of the local ecosystem. The newspaper and broadcast company, which purchased remaining shares in ShopLocal from Tribune a couple of months ago, has now bought a controlling interest in CareerBuilder .

It has been over 90 days since former Yellowpages.com President Charles Stubbs took the helm at Primedia , the publisher of apartmentguide , rentals.com , newhomeguide.com and DistribuTech . We’ve followed Stubbs for a long time, and have naturally been curious about his game plan. LiveDeal , which has been aggressively pushing a joint classifieds and directory platform since its merger with YP.com last year, is moving in new directions with the arrival of new president and CEO Mike Englehart. He replaced former YP.com head Dan Coury at the end of May.
