Collected by the U.S-French Jason altimetric satellite, the tropical Pacific Ocean remains in the grips of a cool La Niña, as shown by new data of sea-level heights from mid-October of 2007. Image source: http://sealevel.jpl.nasa.gov This La Niña has slowly strengthened for the past nine months which is indicated by the blue area in the center of the image along the equator. Blue indicates lower than normal sea level (cold water). Oceanographer Bill Patzert of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, California said: "After eight very dry years on the Colorado River watershed and a record-breaking dry winter in Southern California in 2006-2007, the situation in the American Southwest is dangerously dry. This La Niña could deepen the drought in the already parched Southwest and Southeast United States." Meanwhile Patzert and other scientists say La Niña contributed to the conditions that fueled Southern California’s recent deadly wildfires. ...

Meteorologist Cliff Mass examines Pacific Northwest weather in his new bookFrom: britneyspears1.blogsome.com

No, Seattle isn’t the rainiest city.
But the Pacific Northwest can lay claim to many other meteorological milestones:
“I can go on and on,” says Cliff Mass, who reels off weather nuggets like a baseball fan reciting stats.
But the University of Washington meteorologist’s sound takes on a hushed tone when he gets to this one: The country’s most numerous ferocious nontropical cyclone in a century pummeled the Northwest coast with winds gusting c...

Famous Ocean Explorers Today the thought of yachts conjures up images of sunbathing, Caribbean holidays and luxury. But not so long ago, these vessels were the simple structures that intrepid explorers called home for many years at a time and transported people to places that they could never have dreamed existed. Yachts like the Santa Maria helped sailors find the North American continent while the Victoria was the first vessel to sail around the globe. Hundreds of years ago people were...

Nice to start again Z scale modelling! From: trainboard.com
Post Date: 2008-11-29 12:59:16
Hi folks!
just wanted to introduce myself as a new member on this board. I have been doing MR stuff for 30 years in different scales (G, H0, N, Z) but with many long gaps (even few years) in between active modelling periods.
I have tried out Z scale before, many years ago but then the Märklin F7 was the only US option so I dropped it then. Now the situation has changed very much and there is a lot of wonderfull models and I am doing a full restart with this small & nice scale.
I am plann...

Abstract Global change research includes an extensive body of literature covering population-environment interactions focusing on the central issues of migration and demography, environmental site and situation, and socioeconomic structures addressed within a spatially-explicit but temporally dependent form. Quite often this is simply because neither the data nor the modeling methodology combine well to effectively address uncertainty and spatially defined time-series data within a non...
