Hope you didn't get a gift card from The Sharper Image this past holiday season. If you did, the person that bought it for you gave Sharper Image their money only to get nothing in return : On Tuesday, February 19, 2008, The Sharper Image commenced a case under chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code in the United States Court for the District of Delaware. The company intends to continue to conduct business as usual while it devotes renewed efforts to resolve its operational and liquidity pr... more

Ever been surprised to see someone you always thought was a goofball idiot turn into a rich, successful person while your training and smarts were not getting you to the same place? In the appropriately-titled How Come That Idiot's Rich and I'm Not? , Robert Shemin gives you his thoughts on why upside-down "idiots" get rich while "RUBs" (Rightside Up and Broke) toil away for The Man and live lives of quiet desperation. I had sort of a love-hate relationship with this book.... more
How I’m Different Than George Clooney and Michael Jordan

Time magazine just had a George Clooney cover story . The story's author, Joel Stein, invited Clooney over for dinner. He hasn't brought any wine, and I worry that this gues... more

Last month BusinessWeek had a story about Bank of America suddenly jacking up interest rates on many customers' credit cards, telling them they had to accept the new rates if they wanted to keep holding the cards. (They could opt to cancel their cards and pay off the remaining balance at the old rate.) The story quotes people who consider themselves good customers who are upset about having their rates suddenly and perhaps unfairly increased. My first thought? "Get a new ca... more
