2004 was a more difficult year for me than 2000. 2000 was the first political election I followed with any level of sophistication (I was 14), and it was an education to be sure. I first voted in 2004, however, and that year stung, because I saw a country which had seen what President Bush had wrought upon the nation, and still a majority of Americans re-elected him. If you want to search through my archives from that time period, you'll see that I was not a happy camper. I asked then th... more

University of Chicago BLSA Update
From: abovethelaw.com
Post Date: 2008-12-04 13:06:28

Earlier today we reported on an unfortunate affair that took place at the University of Chicago Law School. BLSA members excluded white students from a public forum, causing the law school Dean and the BLSA president to issue an apology. Since our initial story we’ve learned that the BLSA president has stepped down from that position, and has issued a more full apology and explanation about how events transpired: For those who are concerned, I have received phone calls throughout... more

XO, Why must you be so elusive?
From: rasml.org
Post Date: 2007-12-22 21:46:06

Sadly, I got the unfortunate email that my OLPC XO won’t arrive before christmas, and that I should expect it before the 15th of January. This is disappointing both because it was my Christmas present to myself AND because I’m taking enough days off in the next two weeks to have been able to really put it through it’s paces (and write it up appropriately). On the bright side, my co-worker MM got his XO last week and from fiddling around with it for a few minutes ... more
Movies: Sicko, Crisis: Behind a Presidential Commitment, Helvetica
From: rasml.org
Post Date: 2007-12-22 06:21:42

Films I’ve seen recently: Sicko (Special Edition) — We’ve all got at least one friend who, like Michael Moore, takes every good thing one step too far. That said, Sicko is a magnificent film that puts to focus one of the great dilemmas of our age — the astronomically rising costs of healthcare. Moore handles it in a mostly reasonable way, by reminding us that it’s not just the uninsured that are at risk but the millions of americans who are under-in... more

2007 Season of Lists: Concerts
From: rasml.org
Post Date: 2007-12-19 19:30:41

Here’s an understatement for you: My 2007 was a pretty good year for concerts. To be honest, it’s been an abundance of concerts (by my standards) this year. Perhaps too many… As it was, I went to 21 concerts this year, two of which were 3-day marathons (Lollapalooza & Austin City Limits).  This does not count the three concerts that I was unable to attend that I had tickets to: Bob Dylan / Elvis Costello, Beirut, Iron & Wine! Let’s get to the r... more
