I keep hearing from folks what a screwed up process we have on the Democratic side to decide our nominee. Those Republicans don’t have these superdelegates, and their primaries are mostly winner take all. Heck, even some high ranking people in Hillary Clinton’s campaign point to the Republican rules being so much better because, well, they think they would have done better with those. Leave aside the fact that the Republicans do have superdelegates , they just don’t call them that (maybe they aren’t so super?), are these primaries really winner take all? I was hoping to talk to my Republican mole to find out what exactly will happen today when Arizona Republicans select their convention delegates and what these rules are. From what I’ve been able to glean from some Republican blogs, it doesn’t seem that actual allegiance to primary winner  John McCain is a qualification, even though he’s the prohibitive nominee. For example...

By CHRIS PACKHAM Okay, so John McCain is finally the President of Missouri , thanks to 3,000 people who couldn’t stay the fuck home on Election Day. THANKS, YOU GUYS. Now we’ll never be rid of McCain and his horrible Alaskan spouse with her stolen wardrobe and hillbilly-like crowd of pregnant, barefoot children. When they move to their Presidential mansion in Independence, will they sleep in the same bed with Joe the Plumber, all wearing little night caps like little cartoon ... more

I’d like to inform the folks who keep pushing for this “Super Delegate Caucus” that we actually already have one. It will be held in Denver this August and the votes will be binding. Maybe y’all have heard of it? I was going to avoid writing about this thing, but the idea seems to keep getting resurrected, mostly by the same journalists who only a couple of months ago were so excited that this thing could go to the convention. Aside from Phil Bredesen , I haven’... more

For some reason, one particular post in from June of 2006 became a favorite target of spambots advertising pornography. The “comments” that were posted would not have been a problem since the post was so old, except that they all showed up in the “recent comments” section on the side bar. Some of these were up for several hours before I was able to delete them, so if any of you were offended by them, I am sorry. I went back and turned off the ability to comment on that... more

The other day, I wrote a post where I said that despite John McCain’s personal popularity, local Republicans still seem to be in trouble. At least one poster questioned my sanity when I said that Bob Lord seems to have a chance against John Shadegg , despite the overwhelming Republican registration in the district. He even accused me of eating bad jelly beans. Hey, as long as I don’t mix the greens with the reds, and I stay away from the orange ones, I can handle them. Well&... more
