Lost in the supermarket: McGovern talks corn ethanol, food prices (and Hillary)

So, I was sitting in a comfy couch in the blogger tent; I lean back, look up, and think ... "That looks like [Rep.] Jim McGovern." Not ever having seen him from upside-down and below, I had to ask him. It was Jim. "We've been meaning to interview you", I said. He says, "How about right now?" Good man. Lucky I'd been thinking of my questions already. Co-chair of the House Hunger Caucus, McGovern has been a critic of corn-based ethanol -- both for the fact that it is hardly an improvement in carbon footprint over oil, and that the increased demand for corn seems to be driving up food prices around the world. And response from Democratic leaders has been apathetic -- a morally lackluster response in the face of regional special interest pressure. McGovern feels we've been reckless viewing corn ethanol as some improvement over the previous status quo.
