Gustav spared New Orleans but damaged much of Baton Rogue. Early reports suggested that broken glass and debris presented a safety issue at Tiger Stadium. Damage to the scoreboard and the fences around the facility were also reported. Electrical damage had not been assessed due to the wide spread power outages. Les Miles indicated that this was more significant than Katrina for many LSU players, as seeing the damage first hand in familiar surroundings is far more impacting than TV coverage of utter destruction just down the road. It comes as no surprise that LSU postponed the Troy game to the common bye of November 15th. This give LSU 7 weeks in a row with a game in the thick of SEC conference games. 8 if they go to the SEC Championship. P.S. Are you OK Tiger Educated? Going to a baseball game in Detroit used to mean heading to Michigan and Trumbull. The intersection that became shorthand for Tiger Stadium. Go there today, and all that remains is a small slice of the arena that once drew throngs of fans to see legends like Ty Cobb and Hank Greenberg play. The rest of the ballpark, which hosted thousands of games between 1912 and 1999, has been demolished, loaded into trucks and driven away. But its not gone forever. Bits and pieces of the old stadium ma... more

Reports from the Ponderosa indicate that Jordan Jefferson has taken as much as 50 percent of the snaps at quarterback for LSU this week, and he’s looked 1000 percent better than he did last week. That would indicate we might see Jefferson plugging into Andrew Hatch’s role as the run-package quarterback, and giving the Tiger offense a little added dimension. Getting a chance to run some option and misdirection against Alabama would help; that’s a defense which prides itself on ... more

Can the SEC change the college football landscape?
From: feeds.feedburner.com

Tim Stephens of the Orlando Sentinel displays an uncanny knack for indulging in too much tequila... or not quite enough in list latest blog post, suggesting that the SEC should play the role of corporate raider and take over college football. While the analogy is a bit of a stretch, Stephens does manage to land a few shots and -- if nothing else -- open up some rather interesting discussions. Stephens notes that the SEC is publicly saying that the notion of SEC TV is on the table ... more

Rivals.com editor Mike Huguenin (who’s work I am quite fond of) has a good rundown of 10 questions for the upcoming football season . It’s a good read, so take a look . Some highlights: 1. Can USC find a go-to receiver? Tight end Fred Davis was the Trojans’ go-to receiver last season, but he’s now in the NFL. That leaves Patrick Turner and Vidal Hazelton – two former uber-recruits – as the guys who figure to be Mark Sanchez’s main targets.... more

Tennessee writer: Make the SEC fair

John Adams of The Knoxville News Sentinel is, for whatever reason, out to right the alleged wrongs and to make the Southeastern Conference more ’fair’ . You never will achieve true balance unless you go to an 11-game league schedule. However, you could avoid the Georgia-Florida scenario of the upcoming season. They will be consensus top-two picks in the East, and both should be ranked in the top five nationally. But they won’t be on equal footing in conferenc... more
