Lucasflims seems to understand that just because it is possible to invoke copyright protection, doesn’t mean it’s always beneficial to do so. They’ve recently asked YouTube to put “ fan-made parodies ” back up. Undoubtedly they’ve determined the parodies were fair use, i.e. — they’d lose in court. I’m happy that they didn’t unleash a FUD-bomb anyway. It might well have been a pyrric victory even if they won. Their tone seems to indicate they know yanking content from the web can create bad publicity. They don’t want to be held responsible for sqashing this parody-making, “rag-tag band of rebels.” Apparently the action was taken by YouTube as a result of a misunderstanding of a request to remove an item containing material taken from starwars.com without our permission. We have asked YouTube to restore any works that they inadvertently removed . [emphasis mine] via Starwars.com Blogs As Sony BMG lear...

I just finished working on a website redesign for a friend. In the course of testing it in IE, I realized that it incorrectly renders my blog... After so much time away from that browser, I must have made a change somewhere that causes things to look funky. It has been blissful to forget about Internet Explorer for awhile. *sigh* I suppose I’ll have to fix it again. :-) This isn’t the first time it’s happened. Between Firefox , Camino , and Safari , I’d forgot...

This is pretty amazing. Watch the Ariel Atom pass a Honda CBR RR on a twisting track! This car kills $500,000 supercars at less than a tenth of the price. It’s hilarious how much the acceleration distorts the driver’s face — in truth, it’s probably more air than acceleration — fun to watch anyway. It’s worth watching in action on Top Gear wouldn’t it be great if the show was available in the states... ...

Sometimes a drug treatment will have precisely the effect it is intended to counter. This is called the paradoxical effect in psychiatry, and elsewhere. Seems it emerges in web-driven social psychology and economics, too... Koch Vision began posting trailers of its films on YouTube last February. "Its popularity, coupled with the legal controversy regarding copyright infringement (over the airing of a ’Saturday Night Live’ skit called ’Lazy Sunday,’ which led to a c...
