We Make Money Not Art offers some nice highlights from Manifesta 7 , the European Biennial of Contemporary Art hosted by the Trentino-South Tyrol Region in Italy, on now until November 2. Part of the exhibition, entitled Principle Hope (curated by Adam Budak) takes place in what’s left of an old tobacco factory in Rovereto, spread throughout the skeleton of the old industrial space. One particular piece at Rovereto that caught our eye was Guido van der Werve ’s Nummer acht - Everything is going to be alright (2007). The short film documents the artist in a slow, silent chase with an icebreaker. Van der Werve walks 15 meters in front of the massive ship atop the frozen over Finnish Gulf of Bothnia, his path slowly destroyed behind him. Poignant in both its simplicity and grandeur. A comment in our recent post, Is Technology Destroying The Art Of DJing? led us to an awesome new tool for DJs to manipulate and play music. The ATTIGO TT was created by Scott Hobbs , a student at Dundee University studying innovative product design. For his final year project he’s created a touch screen turntable that lets DJ’s loop, sample and scratch wave forms just as you would a record. The size of the touchtable is approximately the same as a standard turntable, makin... more

Through a collaboration between Google and the British government, two cool new environmental layers for Google Earth were officially unveiled a few days ago by British Prime Minister Gordon Brown at the Google Zeitgeist UK conference. Aptly named, Climate Change in Our World , the project draws data from the Met Office Hadley Centre and the British Antarctic Survey and uses Google Earth Outreach to create interactive animations that, respectively, show world temperature changes o... more
Explaining The Internet With Paper

Common Craft is a fun site that makes videos which explain web technologies in plain English. The videos use good old fashioned paper signs and diagrams to breakdown complex processes. A healthy dose of humor and simple animation gives it the feel of a tutorial for kids, but that’s why it’s so brilliant. For people who have no clue what RSS or wiki means, this basic approach could be a huge help. Common Craft ... more
