I’m incredibly thrilled to share the news that Mapufacture, my company co-founded with Mikel , will be joining FortiusOne. Mikel , and Sean share their thoughts on BrainOff and the GeoCommons blog and here is the official press release .
Building Mapufacture has been an incredible experience. What started out as a project to demonstrate an index of a new format called GeoRSS grew into a company that effectively demonstrated geospatial aggregation and provided free mapping tools to organizations and individuals around the world.
Being an entrepreneur means there is no definition of evenings, weekends or holidays. As a small company, everyone is responsible for development, management, accounting, business, public relations, server maintenance and more. It’s exhilarating and exhausting. Over the past several years, Mikel and I have been proponents of open data and services, and saw the GeoWeb become a complex, and fast-paced domain.

Several months ago I made a couple of New Year’s Resolutions . One of these was setting up a bug tracker - yeah, well, that’s still in progress, though I’m thinking of going with the appealing (and Ruby on Rails written) SimpleTicket .

I forgot to announce it a couple of weeks ago, but FoFRedux , a web-based RSS aggregator I help lead and develop released version 0.3.
The version itself brings lots of little changes, including tagging, better categories, PostgreSQL DB support, and beginning mapping output . But most importantly it added RSS output. Mashable has some thoughts on micropayments , in this case via indieKarma . indieKarma pays you a penny for every hour a visitor spends on your site. Implementation seems weak, as it requires both the viewer and site to have accounts setup and logged in to indieKarma (e.g. won’t work from public workstations)
