Jerome Armstrong’s MyDD is often seen as the fountain head of the liberal blogosphere. Certainly the work that Chris Bowers and Matt Stoller, in particular, have done on that site in the last three years has been some of the best the blogosphere has produced. Last week, Josh Marshall of Talking Points Memo invited Matt Stoller to kick off a discussion of the netroots on TPMCafe . It was a great discussion and here are some of the highlights. Matt kicked it off with his post, What is this new movement ? Over the past nine years, a series of shocks to the country have radically changed the contours of our political debates. In the 2000 election, the Presidential debate involve...

I've been thinking for a couple days about what it must be like to work for the McCain campaign. I am thinking this because on Sunday night, I read Paul Rosenberg's OpenLeft post about the Internet and how it changes the media environment for politics (specifically, how it makes Rovian attack-politics infeasible). And because I then refreshed OpenLeft and saw the greatest blogpost of all time: McCain's New Strategy: Giant Yardsigns , by Matt Stoller Stoller adds: "A... more

So, we are understandably very focused on the budget and everything, but, I thought it might be useful to note some other things. The Inquirer ran a strange anti-labor op-ed yesterday , that was basically an advice column on how employers can fight against the incredibly important "Card Check Law" that will make it easier to unionize. Matt Stoller has more, and actually got a response from the author, Wolf Block attorney James Redeker: The unintended consequence is not only from EFCA i... more

Now I don’t endorse everything Joe the Plumber has said, but Josh Marshall has about as much of a reason to call him a "skinhead" as I do to declare that Marshall beats his wife -- which is to say he doesn’t have one.... more

Mark - that’s not entirely true. Joe the Plumber does shave his head. Josh Marshall doesn’t have any superficial characteristic associated with wife beating. So I think you’d be on more solid ground calling Marshall a genocidal murderer, since a majority of genocidal murderers have facial hair and Josh Marshall often sports a beard. I don’t know if he does right now, but why should that matter by Josh’s standards?... more

He really has a way of summing up what I’m feeling . The other obvious emotion/state of mind for me is this desire to do something, to lend myself to the effort of righting the wrongs. Anyone have ideas on I should direct it? ... more

The following are some notable posts from the progressive blogosphere this week. *Markos lays into Joe Biden , calls him a “ patronizing asshole“ or a “historical revisionist asshole.” *Eric Boehlert on Media Matters has a press corrective entitled “The press manufactures John Kerry’s tears.” Boehlert writes that “reporters and pundits went ahead and manufactured the narrative that the ‘emotional’ and ‘choked up&... more
