If you haven’t heard, Mayor Daley has been pushing for the bars in Wrigleyville to stop serving alcohol during the 7th inning during potential ‘clinch’ games, similar to what is done inside Wrigley Field. Well, he got his way and it never even came to a vote. The bar owners are scared to death of what the Mayor could do to their business if they don’t comply. Take this quote from Tribune : “You say it’s voluntarily, but, c’mon, it’s a directive from the city” and this one from the Sun-Times : “We all know that we have to protect [ourselves] and be cautious.” Crazy? While listening to WLSAM this afternoon, neither respected radio host Roe Conn nor seasoned ABC-7 Achorman Ron Magers could get anyone to speak on the record. Not a single one, for fear of retribution. Now THAT’S power.

Remember this picture ? It was taken from Water Street. To the right was Caterpillar’s portion of the old Sears block. To the left was the Peoria Riverfront Museum’s portion. Recently Cat was given approval from the City Council to turn it into a parking lot for six months or so while their nearby parking deck underwent structural upgrades. When I drove by today I was struck by the fact that all of the artwork adorning the Museum Square side (which required a donation o... more

As much as I love this song, I don’t expect it to come close to the popularity of the video I made of the Lovin’ Spoonful’s Summer In The City , which is approaching 135,000 views and nearly 200 comments from around the globe. I really wanted to film a stretch of telephone line in the country with clouds moving past and tumbleweed bouncing across an old farm road, but what I saw in my brain had to adjust to the reality of where I live. I think it turned out nicely just the s... more
