I honestly can’t remember anything quite like this in American politics - a dark new low, if that’s possible:
The McCain campaign is defending crowd members at its recent rallies who have called Obama a terrorist, accused him of treason and even screamed "kill him" when his association with former Weather Underground member Bill Ayers has been broached.
" Barack Obama’s attacks on Americans who support John McCain reveal far more about him than they do about John McCain . It is clear that Barack Obama just doesn’t understand regular people and the issues they care about. He dismisses hardworking middle class Americans as clinging to guns and religion, while at the same time attacking average Americans at McCain rallies who are angry at Washington, Wall Street and the status quo," reads a statement from spokesman Brian Rogers. "Even worse, he attacks anyone who dares to question his readiness to serve as their commander in chief in chief. ...

... and the campaign knew it, since Davis’s salary was paid directly to the firm, which was also collecting $15,000 a month from Freddie Mac for providing, as far as the record shows, no services whatever, in a deal (shakedown) arranged by Davis personally.
Two lessons here:
1. The McCain campaign is a collection of crooks and liars. But that’s sort of dog-bites-man news by now.
2. The wheels are starting to come off; different factions in the campaign are now using the... more

Last night’s Hell to Pay fundraiser for Darcy Burner was a huge success. We started out with a goal of getting Darcy 3,200 donors...and we ended up with 3,643 , raising $ 25,262 ! And that total doesn’t even include the donations made to the entire slate of O2B candidates . Kudos to the community for coming together for one of our own. From DemFromCT: The tracking polls today include one full day (of three) that are post debate, and Obama is now at 50% in 3... more
You’ve seen the news:Capitol Hill sources are telling me that senior McCain people are more than concerned about Palin. The campaign has held a mock debate and a mock press conference; both are being described as "disastrous." One senior McCain aide was quoted as saying, "What are we going to do?" The McCain people want to move this first debate to some later, undetermined date, possibly never. People on the inside are saying the Alaska Governor is "clueless." Even some conservative writer... more
Democrats may tax health benefits - The Boston Globe WASHINGTON - In the last month of the presidential campaign, it was one of Barack Obama and Joe Biden’s strongest attack lines: John McCain, they warned, would “tax your healthcare benefits for the first time ever.”But now, some Congressional Democrats in charge of health reform are talking about doing just that. ... more

Welcome to Vichy America
This was not just another election. The last time we had a presidential election, the Left tried to get a brazen traitor elected - namely John Kerry. This new President from the Left is even more than that. Obama was no traitor, because he never was really on our side in the first place. Obama was really a foreign candidate - in spirit, funding, and citizenship.

Out in California, they recalled 143 million pounds of tainted beef. That’s one triple-stacked burger at Wendy’s. A hundred forty three million pounds of tainted beef! I believe that’s the largest amount of tainted meat since Roger Clemens.”

-- McCain : "I’m afraid Senator Obama doesn’t understand the difference between a tactic and a strategy".

From a reader:
While some are looking for confirmation whether Mrs. Jopek had asked Senator Obama to stop wearing (or using it) her son's wristband, what all are ignoring is Sergeant Jopek supported the mission in Iraq and died supporting a cause he believed in. That is Obama's greatest shame, that he has always failed to say that SGT Jopek gave all in a cause he believed in.
Yet that is just like what the liberal media failed to say when they propped up Cindy Sheehan. No... more
Fact Checking the Debate

Last night’s debate provided viewers the chance to see the two presidential candidates talk turkey on a variety of issues. It also gave voters the opportunity to see if Senators Obama and McCain knew the difference between fact and fiction. A slew of sources within the Buzz examine whether what each candidate said was actually, well, true.

Please feel free to discuss the Oregon and Kentucky primaries specifically and the presidential race in general. It looks like Barack Obama will win Oregon tonight, Hillary Clinton will win Kentucky, and we’ll get another round of crazy spin from the Clinton campaign about how it’s really only big states , the math , not the math , the electoral college , only large, northeastern states that begin with the letter "N" , Michigan, where Clinton’s name was the only o... more
Very reliable sources have indicated that Governor Kaine is about to make a major mistake endorse Gerry Connolly in the 11th.
This, of course, would be a major mistake since Gerry is far from the best option - Leslie Byrne is a far better choice to represent the 11th. And she has experience (with it seniority) in that very job. See Lowell’s Top 10 Reasons to Vote for Leslie if you need a refresher.
As for Connolly, obviously the Governor needs a go... more
Just saw this distressing news : BOSTON -- Sen. Edward M. Kennedy has a malignant brain tumor, according to his doctors. Doctors for the Massachusetts Democrat said tests conducted after Kennedy suffered a seizure this weekend show a tumor in his left parietal lobe. Over at The Nation , Katrina Vanden Heuvel has some thoughts about Jim Webb:
Jim Webb can make the Four Seasons seem like a diner in Owensboro, Kentucky. It’s that kind of blue-collar street cred that may be just what it takes to propel the first term Senator from Virginia onto the Democratic ticket as Vice-President.
