I don't believe it's a matter of sexism.  I question the approach of "staging" her, and I think that this is a lot of money for wardrobe. She likes to say that she and Todd are normal people, but most "normal" people don't shop at Saks (and if they do, they don't spend this much on a fall wardrobe).  I realize that it's not her money that is being spent, but I wouldn't have viewed her any differently if she had purchased her suits at Macy... more

From Tom Fitzmorris’s website covering New Orleans restaurants.  Apparently, Ike pushed enough water in the Lake Ponchetrain to flood Manchac and close Middendorf’s.  It also flooded the home of the new owners, Horst and Karen Pfeifer.  The Pfeifer’s had owned Bela Luna in New Orleans, which did not reopen after Katrina.  The water is not down enough for them to assess the damage. Middendorf’s has come up on the blog before, here , and they (along with T... more

From Patsy Brumfield : OXFORD – Zach Scruggs, serving a prison term for his part in the judicial bribery scandal that brought down his famed lawyer father, Dickie Scruggs, is asking the U.S. District Court to tell the Mississippi Bar Association it can’t “permanently” prevent him from practicing law again. Henegan for the Governor got hard and close questioning from Justice Graves. I joined in process thanks to computer problems, about 6 minutes in. Justice Graves was asking whether the statute relating to ballot order 367 applies.  Henegan says it only applies to general election candidates.  He is arguing that the statute is followed if the general election candidates are listed in the proper order followed by the special election candidates in the proper order. He’s saying they a... more
