? Today we’ll see just how infatuated John McCain is with the policies of our nation’s worst president ever, George W. Bush. If you want to learn more about the man of so many flip-flops and political lives, I’d recommend you check out NYT reporter David Kirpatrick’s interview on Fresh Air this morning . It’s a bit long at 43 minutes, but quite interesting. Get ready to here Mr. Third Term try to distance himself from Bush, while trying to reassure the Republicans that he’ll be Bush redux.

Welcome to Vichy America
This was not just another election. The last time we had a presidential election, the Left tried to get a brazen traitor elected - namely John Kerry. This new President from the Left is even more than that. Obama was no traitor, because he never was really on our side in the first place. Obama was really a foreign candidate - in spirit, funding, and citizenship.

Out in California, they recalled 143 million pounds of tainted beef. That’s one triple-stacked burger at Wendy’s. A hundred forty three million pounds of tainted beef! I believe that’s the largest amount of tainted meat since Roger Clemens.”

When Steve Schmidt stopped working for Dick Cheney to come back to California and manage Arnold Schwarzenegger’s re-election, Carla Marinucci had a page B1 story on Schmidt which quoted Garry South as saying, "He’s been sitting on Karl Rove’s lap for the last five years." And Bob Mulholland offered, "This guy has Cheney tattoos all over him."
Yet by the time Schmidt went on to be the latest to take over John McCain’s campaign, he seemed to be walking on water with ... more
? Everybody’s waiting to see what Sarah Palin will have to say at 7:30PT. I’m on record; she’s going to do great, and she’ll be feted by the media for it. Very little of it will be true, but she’s on home court and is an engaging speaker. Some speech samples here . The speech is going to be tough and straight-up politics of resentment. We’ll see if she can channel her anger at being called out for ridicule this week; I think she&... more
The primary reason Republicans continue to hold the state hostage and deny us a budget is they are afraid that if they vote for a necessary tax increase, they will face a primary challenge from within their party, either for their current seat or for another office in the future. All such a challenger would have to do is say "Joe Blow voted for a tax increase" and the challenger, flush with money from the Club for Growth, the Howard Jarvis Association, and the other usual suspects will take out ... more
You wouldn’t think that anyone would look at the dysfunction that is the California legislature and use it as a model, but that’s precisely what the national Republicans have done in their party platform , as the eagle-eyed Matt Yglesias discovers:
Page 16 of the Republican Platform endorses a Balanced Budget Amendment "to require a balanced budget except in times of war" and then page 17 says that "because the problem is too much spending, not too few taxes, we support a supe... more
