“Some of the things he [Manny Ramirez] did were simply despicable, despicable” – Tim McCarver, Baseball Announcer Manny Ramirez putting the Dodgers on his back is the best story in baseball.  Sports Illustrated noticed by putting him on this week’s cover  while explaining Manny’s nuanced hitting genius . This is HIS time, and he is THE story. That is… until Tim McCarver pulled a John McCain this week, and changed the subject with negative campaigning.  There is a history of “McCarver Being McCarver” that has included  head-scratching in-game statements , god-awful analogies , and past personal run-ins with players (see Deion Sanders). Albert Pujols was no doubt the best baseball player in the National League during the 2008 season, but was he the “Most Valuable Player?” The team for which he plays, the St. Disgraced Ramirez, Clemens lead the ‘Golden Gobbler’ Awards From the boorish behavior of Manny Ramirez to... more
Manny on Mets Radar?

Despite his free agent status, Manny Ramirez’s name hasn’t been linked to the Mets yet this off season. That changed today as John Perrotto of Baseball Prospectus believes the “The Mets could soon become suitors for Manny Ramirez”. I said earlier this off season that Manny would be the perfect fit for the Mets. His offensive impact is obvious, but his attitude, which was unwelcome in Boston, might be exactly what this team needs. Manny is so oblivious to what is go... more

- G ame theft was the name of the game in the NFL Sunday. Inexplicably poor referee calls - non-call in one instance - allowed two media darlings to succeed when they should have failed. In a late afternoon game the Denver Broncos jumped all over the San Diego Chargers early. However, Philip Rivers led San Diego back to take a 38-31 lead in the fourth quarter. Late in the game with the Broncos driving and inside the Chargers 10-yard line Denver quarterback and budding media-created superst... more

Just a quick discussion question to take you through the weekend. How important is it that a team win the first two games of the season? I think it has a huge psychological effect, because losing the game after that still leaves you above .500 at 2-1. Also, a team only has to play .500 ball for the rest of the year and has a good shot at making the play-offs at 9-7. On the other hand, some teams face a tough early schedule. Even good teams like Dallas face two would-be play-off contenders ... more

I was browsing my sports blogs today and noticed a story on how a young 12-year-old girl was being prevented from playing with boys because she was too good . Her name is Jamie Nared, and you can also see a photo of her with the boys on the team in the article. She towers over most of them, but if you just saw a photo of her face, you’d think she was just like any other teenage girl. Her story is part of a growing phenomenon that has gotten my attention. Whether it’s 6′... more
