Josh Orton , who apparently did not get enough of the Media’s Palin feeding frenzy, reacts to the news that Palin is going back to Alaska and is snubbing the Media by urging: "Traditional media: get thee to Alaska!" I urge the opposite - Media - ignore Palin. My advice is both what I want as a Democrat and legitimate advice for the Media. As a Dem, I would much rather the Media cover McCain and the fact his agenda is identical to George Bush’s eight years in office. For the Media, the best way to smoke Palin out is in fact to ignore her and to cover McCain’s similarities to Bush. I guarantee you McCain will be trotting out Palin in no time as a result. The Polls - 11/3

One day to go. In January, the polling for the New Hampshire primary had Obama leading by an average of 8.3 points . Sounds scary right? Let’s look at those numbers - Obama was predicted to get 38%, Clinton 30%, Edwards 18%, Richardson 6% and 8% undecided. The results ? Obama got 37%, Edwards got 17%, Richardson got 5%. So far so good for the polls. But Clinton got 39%. She got the undecided voters. What does this tell us about tomorrow? It tells me Obama is definitely going to wi... more
Bipartisanship That Makes Sense

I like the way Matt Yglesias describes what bipartisanship should mean: [T]he trick with these bipartisan concepts is to make sure that the credibility is flowing in the right direction. . . . The new administration needs to . . . build support for progressive policies by showing that it can be supported by a politically diverse group of people. This is sharp thinking. Blogging During a Democratic Administration

Several readers have written me or posted comments wondering what I'll be writing about now that the Democrats have won back the White House. I was asked the same question a year ago during this interview . Rob La Gatta: So far, TalkLeft – liberal leaning in nature – has lived its entire life under the presidency of Republican George W. Bush. What do you plan to do if, come January 2009, a Democratic president is sworn into office? Do you expect that under such circ... more

You don't win elections with one hand tied behind your back. The Democrats need to come out swinging against Sarah Palin, the unqualified, radical right choice of John McCain to occupy the nation's second most powerful leadership position. The fact that she's under investigation for abuse of power alone should be enough to disqualify her. Tell her to come back after she's been cleared and has shown she brings something other than tokenism to the job. The Democ... more
The Candidates and World Leadership

Steve Hamm, a senior writer at Business Week , worries about the nation's diminishing role as a world leader. Over the past eight years, the United States has lost a tremendous amount of influence on the world. The Bush administration's stance on global warming, its bullying style, the war in Iraq, and lack of leadership on fair trade have left the country as an outlier in the global community of nations rather than a true leader. So one of the most important tasks of the next pre... more

More than three years ago, TalkLeft asked whether Bruce Lisker, who was convicted of killing his mother, is innocent. Some of the jurors in his trial, having heard about new evidence in his case, were questioning his guilt, as was the prosecutor who tried the case. Lisker was convicted a quarter of a century ago. Two years ago, a federal magistrate held a hearing, listened to evidence, and produced a 57 page report concluding that Lisker's evidence of actual innocence was so strong t... more
