Stu Rothenberg currently sees Democrats picking up three to six seats in 2008 - not too different from the Guru’s longstanding prediction of five or six seats. However, he also emphasizes how super-duper totally vulnerable Senator Mary Landrieu is without offering any mention of what her Republican opponent has accomplished on the campaign trail since joining the race, probably because there’s not really anything to mention... except for the Republican publicizing Senator Landrieu’s re-election bid .
Louisiana : Speaking of Senator Landrieu’s re-election bid and the underwhelming campaign of her Republican opponent, the following is from an e-mail from Senator Landrieu’s campaign:
Hammond Mayor Mayson Foster, Covington Mayor Candace Watkins and Washington Parish Assessor Randy "Country" Seal were among 14 elected officials from the North Shor...

The numbers are astounding and these are current as of Monday at 6:30 (people still voted after 6:30 because of long lines).
Democrats lead Republicans in early voting by a nearly 2 to 1 margin and account for nearly 60% of the early voters.
If McCain has any weakness in Louisiana (I am not saying he has one, but if he does) it has to be the fact that Democrats have a much better get out the vote machine so far. If this keeps up through tomorrow (the end of early voting) then election day... more
A couple of interesting notes about Louisiana. The state is considered to be safe presidential territory for the Republicans, with Pollster currently reporting McCain up 13 points. Democratic incumbent Senator Mary Landrieu, on the other hand, has a fairly strong lead over Republican challenger John Kennedy.
So, what do the voting numbers say? Louisiana has no-excuse in-person early voting, and it appears to be taking off. In 2004, just 6.5% of the voters cast their ballots early. This year... more
Although neither race appears to have yet been called, Sens. Roger Wicker (R-MS) and Mary Landrieu (D-LA) seem virtually assured of reelection. Wicker is maintaining his 56% lead with 81% of the MS vote cast, and while Landrieu only leads 50.9%-46.9%, nearly all the outstanding LA counties are in Orleans Parish. At this point, we can say the Dem Senate margin is 56-41, with AK, OR, and MN still outstanding. ... more

Dear Mr. Landers:
Thank you for contacting me regarding the comprehensive immigration reform legislation considered in the Senate. I am pleased to hear from you on this issue.
As you may know, I have always supported bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform legislation. Last year, the Senate considered bipartisan legislation, S. 1639. The legislation was introduced by Senator Kennedy and Senator Specter and was supported by the Administ... more

Republican Norm Coleman eked out a tiny 215-vote victory in his re-election bid over alleged comedian Democrat Al Franken in Minnesota. A recount is already under way, and in trying to steal, er, scrap up as many votes as he can Franken has taken to challenging ballots, suggesting some shouldn’t [...]

Texas : In the 2008 Democratic Senate primary, State Representative and Lieutenant Colonel Rick Noriega has won the four-way race with 51% , avoiding a run-off and securing the Democratic nomination. Celebrate his victory by contributing twenty bucks to his campaign and helping him to reload his coffers for the general election!
Meanwhile, Bush-rubber-stamp John Cornyn’s primary opponent, Larry Kilgore , scored a sizable 18.5% of the Republican primary vote. &n... more
It’s March of 2008 and, in addition to a historic Presidential race, there are numerous high-profile and competitive Senate races. So, of course, it’s too early to take a look at 2010’s Senate races, right?
Wrong.
Over a year ago, I took a first glance at the 2010 races , which feature 19 Republican-held seats up compared with 15 Democratic seats. Among those up for re-election are 8 Republican Senators who will be at least 70 years old on Election Day 20... more
Texas : The Dallas Morning News highlights an interesting statistic : Democratic State Representative and Lieutenant Colonel Rick Noriega pulled in more than 111,000 more votes in his four-way primary than Bush-rubber-stamp John Cornyn received in his two-way primary against a fringe opponent. Doesn’t seem like Cornyn’s base is too fired up.
