First, thanks to GATA who mentioned my post from Mint News Blog examining the so-called “ unprecedented demand ” for Gold Eagle bullion coins in their Daily Dispatch.

Hi everyone. I was roll searching an found an incredibly shiny presidential John Adams coin that looks like it was struck with a proof die or something. And today I discovered the US Mint lost my order :(
Good thing I insured it.:D Why has the quality control at the mint this year been so bad?!! And all of a sudden a lot of fugio cents have popped up on ebay for really cheap.

With the advent of the 2005 Mint Uncirculated Set, the US Mint stopped putting regular circulation strike coins into Mint Sets. Up until that point, Dealers (as well as many collectors) would break up Mint Sets for high quality uncirculated examples of each coin every year to put into their collections and albums.
