[Climate Change Ideas for On Day One-part II]
Today begins a week-long panel event I am participating in sponsored by grist.org and UN Dispatch. One new environmentally-themed idea will be covered each day with the panelists weighing-in with their thoughts to kick things off. Readers are then invited to engage and discuss the topic, with the goal being to help shape the environmental agenda of the incoming president. I strongly encourage and invite your participation in this important event because it should definitely spark some quality political discussion.
From grist.org and UN Dispatch:
“This week marks the twentieth anniversary of NASA Scientist James Hansen’s groundbreaking Congressional testimony on global warming, an event that put climate change squarely on the political agenda. In honor of the anniversary, UN Dispatch, On Day One, and Grist are partnering to discuss ideas the next president can adopt to take on climate change. We are joined by a panel of experts...

Unfortunately, my live updates from the Newsweek/American Petroleum Institute panel at Stanford last Thursday were limited to one - mostly because it took me a while to digest all of it, but also because I found that when I was writing, I stopped listening. Mean Joe Green #12: White House Completes a Realistic Climate Change Report 4 years late! From: feeds.feedburner.com

The New York Times had a brief and POOR-ly titled article on the White House’s recent (and surprisingly factual) report on climate change.
The article’s title “White House: Poor Face Health Risks From Warming” may cause a reader to dismiss the article, and thus the report, in a “phew-atleast-I-don’t-face-health-risks” manner. In fact, the 271 page report forecasts coming severe weather, water shortages, heat waves and a whole slew of bad tidings...

All across the US and the world news agencies are reporting, Israel has chosen a national bird. In honor of their 60th anniversary as a country, they concluded a nationwide campaign to appoint a national bird. Some news articles are making sure we know the chosen bird is not kosher. Others are celebrating the fact that the bird species is known for being monogamous and taking good care of its young. The Jerusalem Post tells of Jewish folklore associating the bird with King Solomon and also quote...
