Republican incumbent Sens. James Alesi and Dale Volker of western New York hold huge leads against their Democratic opponents, while Democratic Sen. Suzi Oppenheimer maintains a major lead against her Republican foe, a Siena College poll released this morning found.

The poll, however, found that a major upset may be in the making that could help Republicans maintain control of the chamber after Election Day.
Republican challenger Dennis Delano holds a 13-percentage-point lead over Democratic incumbent William Stachowski in a Buffalo district with a more than 2-to-1 Democratic enrollment edge.
Siena polled the four races as heated battles for control of the Senate head into the final weeks of the campaigns. Republicans hold a 31-to-29-seat majority, yet at least a half dozen races around New York will determine who takes control on Jan. 1.

Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano’s plan to move the Board of Elections to a building off Saw Mill River Road in Greenburgh may rest with state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo.

State Sen. George Maziarz, R-Newfane, Niagara County, said he’ll announce a decision next week on whether to run for the 26th Congressional District seat being vacated by Rep. Thomas Reynolds, R-Clarence, Erie County.
Sources say that the county chairmen in the district that runs from the Buffalo suburbs to Monroe County are all behind Maziarz, so it’s just a matter of whether he’s officially on board.
