All Gordon Smith’s attempts to pretend that Barack Obama is his BFF and that he really isn’t a Republican after all appear to be falling of deaf ears in Oregon. He’s becoming increasingly unpopular among Oregon voters polled by SUSA for KATU television.
The poll, released Wednesday, shows that Smith has a 56-percent job disapproval rating. The number of people disapproving of Smith’s work in Washington D.C. is the highest that poll has recorded since May 2005. The number of people disapproving of Smith also rose 9 percent since the company last polled Smith’s approval numbers on May 19.
One has to wonder if he’s losing traction with Republicans, since he’s pretending so hard not to be one. There are still some left in Oregon, and they’re feeling a tad abandoned , particularly since he’s desperately avoiding the RNC in Minneapolis.
But they should take heart–he’s still raising money like a Republican :

It’s hardly unheard of for a state’s most prominent and popular politician to endorse a Senate candidate from his own party in his own state, or to cut an ad for that candidate.
Sen. Robert Byrd did a particularly notable (and humorous) ad this cycle for his former state director, Anne Barth, for example.
Such an act is rather notable, however, when the prominent politician in question is known for his close relationship to his favored candidate’s opponent. And ... more
Cheers to Matt Stoller for an excellent post on OpenLeft: E. Coli Conservative Gordon Smith Irrigates Crops with Sewage . Oregon Senator Gordon Smith has a company. Smith’s Frozen Foods. The company stored partially treated sewage in their waste water pond. Then they used that water to irrigate crops. Oh, and the water was contaminated with E. coli. Yum.
I wrote a diary yesterday explaining a little bit the Oregon Senate race between Smith and Democrat Jeff Merkley . I guess I forgot to... more

2 voted but there was no campaign: MI and FL

The whole “Big State” thing is a myth.
Yeah, there’s some stupid spin floating around (from all sides) this cycle, but this is probably the dumbest. And it’s compounded by people wh... more
Yesterday, I noted an AP story on the recent contempt of Congress vote that, well… had a few problems.
In the least troubling of the errors, the reporter — Laurie Kellman — misidentified Rep. Jon Porter (R-NV) as a Democrat.
OK, not such an awful mistake. At least, not by itself. And the AP’s Director of Media Relations, Paul Colford, e-mailed to point out that the AP had in fact already put out a corrected version of the article.
But Kellman didn’t... more

Tonight’s schedule, with pledged delegates in parenthesis):

Ohio (141), 7:30 p.m. ET
Rhode Island (21) 9 p.m. ET
Texas (193) 9 p.m. ET, but El Paso is in a different time zone, so closes an hour later. And, to make things extra complicated, the caucuses begin after the polls close.

The Obama campaign may be planning ahead (something the Clinton campaign never thought of, apparently), but it’s clear that they’re also paving the way for a serious push to knock Clinton out of the race this week.
First off is the developing CW , from the very astute Charlie Cook:
NBC political analyst Charlie Cook writes in his CongressDaily column, “[W]inning by slight percentages in Texas and Ohio aren’t real wins for Clinton. A ‘win’ would... more
