Forgive one more political post on what should be a travel / Denver blog. Slate explores the elementary school art of diagramming sentences, and applies it to Sarah Palin’s speeches and interviews.
A rambling sentence from Katie Couric’s interview is taken apart, but the pictured diagram below, from Charlie Gibon’s interview proves not so easy to dissect:
I had to give up. This sentence is not for diagramming lightweights. If there’s anyone out there who can kick this sucker into line, I’d be delighted to hear from you. To me, it’s not English—it’s a collection of words strung together to elicit a reaction, floating ands and prepositional phrases (”with that vote of the American people”) be damned. It requires not a diagram but a selection of push buttons.

And of course what’s an article about biking in Amsterdam without a few videos to share with my fellow cycling geeks at Bike Forums . This first video is traveling along Haarlemmerweg (or the S103,) from the Sloterdijk Station west of Amsterdam into the city center.
The second: In the narrow streets of The Jordaan, a neighborhood just west of the city center and home to the Westerkerk (church) and the Ann Frank House.
