Yesterday, however, a panel composed of eight Republican and four Democratic Alaska legislators voted unanimously to approve a finding citing Palin for abuse of power : Governor Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda, [Palin] abused her power in pushing for the firing of a state trooper once married to her sister and by allowing her husband to use the governor’s office in a crusade against the officer, a legislative investigation found. “Governor Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda, to wit: to get Trooper Michael Wooten fired,” concluded investigator Steve Branchflower in his report made public Friday. Palin - star - power Promoted from the diaries by Erick I went to the rally the vote event for Saxby Chambliss this afternoon. And, again Sarah Palin showed, as she has in every venue before this one, what charisma and star power are. It may have not been a record but the thousands of people - young women, at least 3 or 4 beauty queens with their tiaras and sashes, little kids, young couples with babaies, and the staple of the GA RNC, old people - came out to see her and her o... more

Robust thanks to reader AS for directing my attention to Mudflats today, where the headline is “Troopergate Witness Flips Like a Pancake.” Recall that McCain-Palin has worked mightily to shut down the Alaska legislature’s “Troopergate” investigation de facto by convincing witnesses (including the Palins themselves) not to co-operate, and Palin even opened an alternative “investigation” under a three-person panel of her own appointees. But now ... more

troopergate update: Hard evidence contradicting sworn testimony has a certain effect on people. Who Signed That Letter to Pelosi?

Wondering who signed that letter to Nancy Pelosi , telling her they expect her to zip it and let Hillary Clinton drag this race all the way into the August convention? They are mostly long-time Clinton cronies, some going clear back to the (Bill) Clinton White House. There are CEO types who run media companies as well as corporate lawyers. One thing they all have in common though: Big Bucks. March 26, 2008 The Honorable Nancy Pelosi Speaker of the US House of Representatives Offi... more
Chelsea’s Best Answer on Monica: “None of Your Business”

I guess Chelsea is no better than her mom at handling tough questions. The person was asking if her mother’s credibility was in doubt because at the time, Hillary was adamant that Bill was not fooling around with Monica. She was only taking her husband’s word for it, and I think it’s a pretty dumb question myself but I also think it’s astounding that, “None of your business” was Chelsea’s best answer. Like she never thought this might come up? A... more

Photo from CBS News The New Republic’s Norm Scheiber sums up the current state of the election. The problem is that each day Clinton and Obama spend consumed with the other is a day that moves John McCain closer to the White House. McCain’s biggest asset is his political brand, which evokes a straight-talking, party-bucking reformer. Among his biggest liabilities is the suspicion he inspires among conservatives thanks to these same attributes. McCain apparently plans t... more
