"What other church is there besides institutional? There’s nobody who doesn’t have problems with the church, because there’s sin in the church. But there’s no other place to be a Christian except the church. There’s sin in the local bank. There’s sin in the grocery stores. I really don’t understand this naïve criticism of the institution. I really don’t get it. Frederick von Hugel said the institution of the church is like the bark on the tree. There’s no life in the bark. It’s dead wood. But it protects the life of the tree within. And the tree grows and grows. If you take the bark off, it’s prone to disease, dehydration, death. So, yes, the church is dead but it protects something alive. And when you try to have a church without bark, it doesn’t last long. It disappears, gets sick, and it’s prone to all kinds of disease, heresy, and narcissism." -Eugene Peterson ht- darryl dash

I know I haven’t done a great job filling everyone in, but I never claimed to be a professional liveblogger! ;) Matt Chandler rocked me hard today, which he usually does. Bottom line - regardless of how my ministry does, what happens with our church, how much I pray, etc. JESUS KNOWS AND LOVES ME. We all "know" that our acceptance comes from the Gospel, but it is so easy in ministry not to live like that. Be sure to pick u... more

The Resurgence conference just ended and what a week it has been. Steve McCoy (aka Reformissionary) has a few posts on the conference. It was good to meet bloggers such as Steve, Kevin Cawley , Pete Williamson and Bruce Chant (All the way from Perth down under!) Great sessions, which I’ll have to digest and post on (along with the ones from the National New Churches Conference two weeks ago). Praise God I’m taking next week of to head to Palm Spr... more

But the man who lives that span, he is something." -- Chaim Potok Strange that in prayer we often ask for a change in circumstances rather than in our character. This week... more
