The shipping problems affecting Netflix are apparently costing the company millions of dollars in lost revenue every day , but the snafu has also presented the company with an opportunity. Irate Netflix members logging into the service are greeted with an apology and an acknowledgment of the shipping problem. Directly below that message is a large promo to try Netflix’s online viewing service: The list of online movies includes titles from your queue, as well as movies that Netflix’s algorithm thinks will appeal. Watching the movies and TV episodes on my smudged Thinkpad screen isn’t the same as seeing them on a TV, but it’s better than nothing. Gadgets We’re not certain why call center employees need even more reasons to treat customers condescendingly, but Siemens has announced that it’s developing tech that will "intelligently" assign reps to callers based on determinations of age and gender.
