Most of you know by now how much I enjoy the Florida Amish community of Pinecraft.  The "busy season" for this unique Amish enclave is from November through March. Pinecraft Days is a week-long street fair of sorts which serves as an unofficial end to the bustling winter. Click here to read about Pinecraft Days.  If any of our site visitors are lucky enough to attend this week, please post a comment letting us know what you thought!
The issue of regulating so-called "Amish taxi drivers" flares up from time to time, especially in Pennsylvania. I think the drivers generally SHOULD be regulated to keep them from gouging the Amish price-wise. I've seen that happen way too much. On the other hand, the state shouldn't regulate them so much that the fees piled on the drivers pretty much force them to gouge. That appears to be what is happening in the Keystone State.

Blizzard Begone....From: oasisnewsfeatures.com

So....this is a blizzard? It is about 3 p.m. in Ohio as type this and we've been seeing steady snow for about 30 hours.  I'd say we have close to 18 inches of white, fluffy powder and our city is pretty much shut down. This storm has been awesome, but all good things must come to an end and this blizzard is beginning to say "bye." I must say....while I'm THRILLED with this storm, I think this will probably still leave 1978 as the "storm of all storms"...

Um....Jerry Springer anyone? This story - which we've been following on this site - is just plain weird, bizarre, strange...I mean a 33-year-old married father of four running off with a 15-year-old girl is strange unto itself. But the fact that the girl is Amish makes it just that much more strange. Usually Amish teens lives are much more "scripted".....there's just not usually room for this type of relationship to develop.....it's a sad story for all involved. ...

Okay....this COULD be a once-in-a-generation snowstorm here in SW Ohio. As a weather buff in general, and a snow lover in particular, I have been waiting for a storm like this for a long time. They simply don't happen that often here. We are in a "snow doughnut hole" where bad snowstorms either pass off to our SOUTH (believe it or not) or northwest. SIGH. But now it is our turn! Um...but what do I do now that it is here? Rachel and I are going to try to go out a...

Ah, they are at it again. At least some of the Amish communities in Wisconsin are quite conservative and very willing to go up against state laws. Long before Wisconsin became home to the large Amish communities of today, there were much smaller populations in the state. This group challenged federal laws about private schooling and won in the landmark Supreme Court case Yoder vs. Wisconsin . This case allows the Amish to this day to educate their children only through grade eight.  L...
