The last of Science Fiction’s Big Three has finally left us, as Sir Arthur C. Clarke has passed away . The man gave us geostationary satellites, HAL 9000, and a place called Rama . And now he’s gone. The above is a video interview he gave just three months ago, after turning 90. TR member and blogger Tricia Leibert weighs in on the loss of Clarke in our IT News blog. For me, I’ll always remember being asked who could take up the sci-fi mantle for Clarke (and Asimov and Heinlein), and not having a good answer. Sir Arthur was irreplaceable. First Gary Gygax , now Clarke. March seems determined to dim the world a bit. There’s an old axiom for career aspirants that goes something like this: “Dress for the job you want, not the job you have.” Now, as a general rule, this probably works, but considering that a spacesuit will run you about $2 million retail, that’s a pretty hefty price tag for a fashion statement of your dream to walk on the moon. It really only helps to drop hints about your desire for a promotion if someone has the power to offer you’re the job you’re look... more

In the beginning, there was “White & Nerdy.” Then came “Code Monkey.” We even entertained the notion of “Geek Like Me” and “It Is Pitch Dark.” But now there is a new contender for ultimate geek theme song, “Hail to the Geek” by the Deaf Pedestrians . If this keeps up, we’ll have a complete pro-geek musical soundtrack before long. (Yes, that would count count as an ultimate irony.) Honorable mention also goes to... more
