Pshaw, racism, smacism. Victoria Switzer, a retired social studies teacher, was on phone-bank duty one night during the Pennsylvania primary campaign. One night was all she could take: "It wasn’t pretty." She made 60 calls to prospective voters in Susquehanna County, her home county, which is 98 percent white. The responses were dispiriting. One caller, Switzer remembers, said he couldn’t possibly vote for Obama and concluded: "Hang that darky from a tree!" Via / Diary of An Angry Black Woman

Madagascar: Obama's Unforgivable Sin
From: voiceswithoutvotes.org
Post Date: 2008-03-04 09:19:46

Seven posts, mostly centered around the Barack Obama phenomenon, in the past month led to 116 comments. Some Malagasies are convinced that Obama is able to implement the unity he promised, both in the US and on in the international scene. Here are a few e... more

From a report on the TV news show 60 Minutes, here is more evidence that the “secret Muslim” rumors are hurting Barack Obama among some sections of the voting public, by tapping into fear of “the Other” among less educated Americans. For background, see my earlier post on the subject, “ My Middle Name Is Hussein .” To his credit, when Obama is asked about the rumors and denies them, he doesn’t just say they are insulting to him as a Christian. He also points out that they are ... more
“Some Things Just Won't Change”

A couple of months ago (and several times up til now) I registered my displeasure with the fact that the primary assumptions resulting in many of the failed policies of the Bush Administration (and indeed the previous one) were not being questioned in the primary presidential debates or even in the major forums for debate on foreign policy. The particulars of neo-conservative philosophy were... more
Obama debate in Canadian Parliament

Canadian Parliament asks PM Questions People ask me why I care so much about US elections, especially those South of the border. This is currently on the Barack Obama You Tube page. Still don’t think America’s politics has any impact in Canada? This of course relates to the NAFTA story and Obama giving us the heads up in advance of the Ohio debate. For the record, I am unaware of any Canadian "right wing operatives" working for the Republicans, but I personally went up to C... more
