The deal to keep Miguel Cabrera in Detroit through 2015 and give him one of the largest contracts in MLB history is not yet official. But that doesn’t mean people will wait to start talking about it. Here’s a roundup from some of baseball’s thinks and fans alike.
Mitch Lichtman, one author of The Book: Playing the Percentages in Baseball, reacted early on in the Baseball Musings comments .
Just because that is what he MIGHT get, does not mean he is WORTH that. Whether a signing was good or bad should be based on what a player is worth, NOT what he is perceived as being worth by other teams. If a player is overrated, based on what he would likely get as a FA, and a team signs him for that, or even less, then it just means that that team overrated the player also - and consequently it was NOT a good deal.
Cabrera is overrated because of his poor defense (even though, unlike a player like Jeter, it is well-known that his defense is poor), and the fact t...

Nate Robertson pitched three scoreless innings with four strikeouts and two hits.

Inge not wanted by the Dodgers, or Tigers fansFrom: mackavenuetigers.com
Post Date: 2008-03-04 16:00:11
We learned today that Brandon Inge isn’t wanted by the L.A. Dodgers, according to the L.A. Times. ( Rotoworld link since LA Times wants you to log in).
I suppose it could be because they have a couple third baseman in camp who are probably as capable (or at least, not as costly) in Nomar Garciaparra and Andy LaRoche. As I grumble over not getting the Pistons/Celtics on tv up north…
Justin Verlander went three scoreless innings on the mound to lead the Tigers’ home team over Philly, 6-2. That’s become a theme lately.
RHP Denny Bautista went two more scoreless innings — five total for the season . I really feel like he’s going to come north with the team.
Zach Miner got the “save” going two inning against some guys we haven’t heard of. Is he the presumptive se...

Post Date: 2008-03-07 13:44:44
I was able to listen to today’s game against the Braves on MLB.com today, so that was nice. Unfortunately, young outfield prospect Wilkin Ramirez, who was having a nice season, dislocated his shoulder diving for a ball in left field. He was 7-for-16 with two homers this spring but obviously had no shot at the MLB club.
In other news, Kenny Rogers couldn’t make it through three innings after a few 3-2 counts earlier in the game. He allowed a run in the first. Couple that scored...
