Cathy and I drove up to Toronto Thursday afternoon, and after a horrible experience with downtown traffic (due largely to, of all things, a Buffalo Bills game a block from our hotel), we finally got settled in and walked up to Volo for a restorative session. I had two pints of the Durham XXX on cask -- quite nice, a bit of alefruit, mostly malt -- and a pint of Grand River Mill Race Mild -- very tasty, with a good edge from the dark malts used -- along with our pasta dinners. We headed back for some well-earned sleep. So, anyway, as I said, yesterday we slowly woke up (after a couple amusing/disturbing dreams I had about beer writers) and I took Cathy out on a walk down along Front Street. We passed the Hockey Hall of Fame and then got to our first destination, the wonderful St. Lawrence Market . Hugh Sisson at the Bawlmer-based Clipper City Brewing has announced that he’ll be converting his Oxford beer line to be USDA Certified Organic. The Oxford line currently sports a hefeweizen and a raspberry wheat.

This is a beer that, frankly, I didn’t know existed. But, it just appeared on NC shelves recently, so I had to pick it up and see what it was all about. I’m sure you all either know about or have had the Anchor Steam beer which is, by all accounts, a major beer in the craft beer revolution. On top of that, it’s a good beer.
