So Tony Snow is leaving his position as White House press secretary to go make some real money in the private sector. It turns out that the $168,000 per year he makes as the spinner-in-chief is too paltry a sum for him, so it’s back to the likes of Fox News or somesuch lowbrow entertainment circuit. And President Bush’s review of Snow’s performance is concise as can be, namely "it’s been a joy to watch him spar with you", as the prez said to the assembled members of the press. So let’s see if we have the big picture figured out correctly here... First, the institution of the free press is so important to our national identity that its protections are enshrined in the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution .
