Last Friday night was the commute from hell for anybody trying to get through the Lincoln Tunnel. It was the third time in a month something suspicious had been found in the tunnel: this time, two liquid-filled bottles glued to the median. Channel 5 News says the incidents appear to be linked: "I would say they’re studying what’s going on at the tunnel," said Paul Nunziato of the Port Authority P.B.A. "Because they’ve been able to do it, 7 bottles placed on one of the busiest roadways in the world and no one sees them no one caught an eye on them, including the cameras." It’s clear that someone or some group is behind all three incidents, the question -- is it a prank or a test? If it’s a test, one security expert says the Port Authority fails. If it’s a test, we hope the Port Authority starts studying. Telecommuting anyone?

St. Paul Port Authority has gained unanimous support from the City Council to develop a once-controversial biogas plan, Star Tribune reports. The biogas plan is aiming to pipe rural Minnesota manure and ethanol byproducts to urban paper recycler Rock-Tenn. The move would help keep 475 jobs at the plant. As part of the plan, the plant [...]... more

Teeth bared, ears back, lots of growling. Wait, those are people we’re talking about. There’s been lots of (human) growling, much of it here , ever since the Joey D’s $300,000 doggie heaven opened in Brookdale Park last November. In Sunday’s New York Times, neighbors complained about not just the barking, but the parking pressure that the dogs’ digs are putting on the neighborhood. And they say that some of the most annoying sounds aren’t from the ca... more

Remember Serge the Concierge ? He always did like the finer things in life , like aged wine and aged cheeses. Now he’s a proponent for a cause I can sink my teeth into: the idea that people get better with age as well. Serge is going to be leading a panel discussion at the SXSW conference in Austin, TX this weekend, called "Over 50 and Not Dead Yet." Among his case studies of not-dead-yet 50-somethings, yours truly . Have questions for a bunch of aging Baby Boomers? Serge will ta... more

It’s Girl Scout cookie selling season and for the last few weekends, girls have set up their tables on locations around Montclair, including Valley Road, Watchung Avenue, Church Street, and in front of various retail stores. But (cue sinister music now) is it legal? Earlier this month, Troop 239 ran into some trouble some two hours after they began selling cookies in front of a closed jewelry store outside the Hinck Building on Church Street, a building owned by Montclair d... more
