The attacks and rhetoric we’re seeing from the McCain-Palin camp now goes far beyond run of the mill gutter politics to something far more dangerous. Campaign events for McCain & Palin look more like KKK rallies with shouts to “ kill him “. They’re tapping into seething racism to fire up the base. Andrew Sullivan points out how dangerous this can be: But they are also very very dangerous. This is a moment of maximal physical danger for the young Democratic nominee. And McCain is playing with fire. If he really wants to put country first, he will attack Obama on his policies - not on these inflammatory, personal, creepy grounds. This is getting close to the atmosphere stoked by the Israeli far right before the assassination of Rabin. Meanwhile, Sarah Palin and her husband have been involved with a genuine terrorist organization , the Alaskan Independence Party. Sullivan on the climate of hate in this election
From: mindfulmom.com
Post Date: 2008-10-10 07:51:02

From Andrew Sullivan this morning: There was always going to be a point of revolt and panic for a core group of Americans who believe that Obama simply cannot be president - because he’s black or liberal or young or relatively new. This is that point. As the polls suggest a strong victory, the Hannity-Limbaugh-Steyn-O’Reilly base are going into shock and extreme rage. McCain and Palin have decided to stoke this rage, to foment it, to encourage paranoid notions that somehow Obama i... more

We’ve been waiting for this a long time — it’s time for the first presidential debate of the 2008 election cycle. Tonight’s debate will be held at the University of Mississippi in Oxford; we’ll be bringing you the hot bits of the debate live here at the Blue. 8:00 CST: Jim Lehrer starts off by noting that today’s debate will focus on foreign policy and national security, “which will necessarily include” the current economic crisis. Thursday Thankfulness: Post-Debate Edition
From: autisminsights.today.com

I think first and foremost, I’m thankful that last night was the last presidential debate.  I’ve had enough of hearing the same thing over and over, and I’m really tired of McCain’s angry sniping.  Anyway, my thankfulness: 1. I’m glad someone FINALLY talked about special needs families and that Obama came out and said he wants to fully fund IDEA.  And for all Sarah Palin’s assertions that she would fight for families with special needs, her state s... more
Jay Cost: How to Control the Agenda
From: feeds.feedburner.com
Post Date: 2008-09-29 05:11:28

HorseRaceBlog So, putting aside the polls, I think it was politically beneficial for McCain to control the agenda of the debate. I think that meant he advanced his message more effectively than Obama. If McCain can manage the agenda of the next two debates as well (a big if), the final effect could be quite helpful to him. It will [...] ... more

I'm about to head out to the airport. But I thought this might be worth throwing into the blog-o-matic. From a reader:Jonah, K-Lo posted a link to a DE site on the Katie's restaurant thing. An eagle-eyed commentator there pointed out that CNN has changed the debate transcript to read: "Can I respond? Look, all you have to do is go down Union Street with me in Wilmington OR go to Katie's Restaurant or walk into Home Depot with me where I spend a lot of time..." (Emphasis ... more

Arbitrarily casting a vote for a presidential candidate from one of the two best known parties based on whether or not he’s expected to win would be like handing your ballot to the media or to McCain or Obama and letting them vote for you. We’ve just been majorly swindled by the government and Wall Street. Did your candidate act on this in a way that you find acceptable? This was no small issue. If McCain or Obama win this election, we will be represented in the White House in the s... more

As you know, it’s incredibly rare that I crib someone else’s published piece wholesale and reprint it here. It has to be something I wish I’d written myself, something that makes a point I think needs to be heard far and wide, or both. Kathleen Parker -- the conservative columnist who may have provided the Cronkite-saying-Vietnam-can’t-be-won moment during the election when she admitted that Sarah Palin was unqualified to be vice president -- is once again taking a ballsy... more

I got my taxes taken care of today by two wonderful ladies in Pompano Beach who do an amazing job. They’ve been doing my taxes for the last three years. This year I also had to have them do my late mother’s taxes from 2005, the year she died, for which I ended up having to [...] ... more

Hillary Clinton seems to be running her campaign right out of Karl Rove’s playbook. She’s obsessed at winning at any cost with no regard to how much damage she does to the party and the country. Her tactics pretty much guarantee a Republican win in November when she can praise McCain while attacking Obama: In a [...] ... more
