Back in 1998 I first laid my eyes upon the Sony Vaio C1 Picturebook. It was an amazing piece of machinery at the time, a super small subnote with some nice hardware. At over $2000 it was out of the price range for this recent college grad with no job. It wasn’t until late 2001 that I found myself able to purchase the C1. Three years since I first saw it, the Picturebook had undergone a slight case redesign, and was sporting the newly designed Transmeta Crusoe processor. After a little searching, I was able to find the latest model on an online auction, purchasing it for about $1200. Over the next few years, it faithfully served as my main computer. Extremely portable, it drew a lot of attention at the coffee shops. I still feel it is one of the best designed subnotebooks ever. Since my 50mm lens has yet to arrive, I borrowed a lens yesterday evening. Although I did not get to shoot anything exciting, I just have to say that shooting with a DSLR is so much different than using a point and shoot, in a good way. At the end of the day, I usually find some change in my pockets. The first thing I do when I come home is to separate the quarters from the rest. After several months, these glasses become full of loose change and it’s time for the next step. The pennies, nickels, and dimes go to the CoinStar machine (if your bank processes change, that’s even better). I pay 9 cents/dollar to process at the CoinStar machine. Shooting a DSLR

I’ve had my 30D for a little over a week now, and it’s just an awesome experience. I’ve always been interested in photography, but never wanted to get into photography as a hobby due to cost. The cost of equipment is still high, but once purchased the equipment should last a while, especially the glass. What is nice is there is no more need to purchase film and develop pictures to see results. I can take all the crazy pictures I want, and not have to worry about cost. Here... more
