Site Server Update
From: opaquedream.com
Post Date: 2006-12-06 13:21:32

I’ve migrated my hosting package to the new Grid Server at Media Temple over this last weekend. Had to tidy up a password change so this blog was offline for a few days, but everything went smoothly and I now have more server space and some additional features to use. I guess that means there will be more media like music and video online as I continue to re-design a new version of the site. It’s about time really. The new Grid Server at MT is supposed to be faster, espec... more

From: opaquedream.com
Post Date: 2006-12-06 13:17:08

For any Mac OS X user who ever needs to resurrect a damaged or corrupted hard disk the latest version of the venerable DiskWarrior is now available. Updates are about $50 if you already own it. I still occasionally have folks ask me about getting Norton Utilities or something like it for Mac OS X and I always have to set things straight by pointing out DiskWarrior. Norton has been dead for a long time, so hopefully nobody is still trying to use it. ... more
Robert Altman Dies at 81

At least he didn’t take off early like Douglas Adams or Stanley Kubrick. I know a lot of folks don’t get into his work, maybe because it’s sometimes deeper and less easy than the straight-up entertainment we all get from movies. I don’t know, but I never had a real problem with Altman and I first saw Nashville when I was probably 15 or so. His influence is somewhat overlooked by the general audience but filmmakers get it. I’ve yet to see his last film ta... more
The Zune Brand Fails To Impress
From: opaquedream.com
Post Date: 2006-11-17 14:35:55

Reviewers, trolls, iPod fanboys and the ‘net in general have been talking about the new Microsoft Zune player all week - that is until the Sony Playstation 3 launch occurred. Back to the Zune though – the reviews have continued to be not entirely positive though the player is obviously not a complete piece of junk. Online in forums and social networking sites the Zune brand is actually overshadowing the player hardware with lots of folks commenting on the brand photography and slogan... more
