Alright kids, I’m going to cover a topic that’s probably very close to some of you. All I ask of you, the reader, is that you keep an open mind and not proceed to flame me at the end of the post.
Back in 2002, a new browser came to the scene. "Phoenix," as it was called at the time, was basically a trimmed down version of the Mozilla suite (except it was just the browser on it’s own development branch). Right off the bat, it carried over many of the features that Mozilla already had--popup blocker, tabbed browsing, and a download manager. Time moved on and Phoenix was eventually renamed to "Firebird." This 0.6 release marked the first release that I really started using more than Internet Explorer (although I started using it around the 0.3 release). So I checked my email a little bit ago and came to the realization that "A school I requested has been added to Facebook." I clicked the provided link and within seconds I was given another free procrastination tool.

Skype is a popular VoIP (Voice over IP) client for Windows, Mac, Linux, and PocketPC. Previously it let you make phone calls to people across the internet for free. You could also pay a small fee to make calls to landline phones/cell phones/international calls. Things have changed though: just a couple days ago Skype announced free SkypeOut through at least the end of this year. That means any calls to anyone in the US or Canada from Skype is FREE.

I’m a beta tester for the new Windows Live Mail interface. Normally I use Internet Explorer with it as it’s a Microsoft production and Firefox always displayed a "classic" view (e.g. use IE because we want you to).
