Liberal supporters (as well as people sympathetic to Dion) have already seized Geoff Regan’s mention of Stéphane Dion’s hearing problem as the primary excuse for why his by-now-infamous interview tanked so badly.
Just one problem with it though. Dion’s hearing problem never came into play during that interview. In fact, its very nature prohibits it from being any sort of excuse in this instance.
Allow me to revisit the post I’d written on the subject and quote from the original news story :
He seemed a little embarrassed about speaking about the difficulty, which he described this way: “If I am at a cocktail and everybody is speaking at the same time then I will have difficulty.
He did not know the name of the impairment, “but I’ve been tested and it’s the case that I hear everything when the sound is isolated but when it’s confused with other sounds, then it’s completely confused.”

“Profess-Air,” or Dion’s DoomFrom: phantomobserver.com

You may remember, back in the fall of 2007, that Stéphane Dion was musing about having to battle a caricature of himself. It seems we now have official confirmation that he’s lost that battle.
How do I know? Have a look at this Globe and Mail story :
Last night, reporters dubbed the plane “profess-air” a nod to the criticism Mr. Dion has taken in Tory attack ads for being a nerdy professor. CTV national reporter Lisa Laflamme came up with the name.

Predicting this campaign, overall, has about as much utility as predicting a Leafs-Sens game: the fun’s in the performance, not the final score. With that in mind, though, I thought it might be useful to look at the websites of the local candidates here in Ottawa-Centre. After all, the online campaign is just as important a component strategy as door-to-door canvassing and relying on your opponents’ screw-ups.
So let’s start with the incumbent, Paul Dewar . His page te...

Okay, if we’re all done with this “pooping puffin” business, I think it’s time we had a look at one of the notaleader.ca’s features. Specifically, Dionbook .
Yes, it advertises itself as a “parody” site. And, to the authors’ credit, it fully explores the “social network” phenomenon, with plenty of pages about groups and people who’ve had plenty to say about the way the Tories have governed in the past 2.7 years.
Now normall...

One thing that doesn’t get mentioned about the Right Honourable Jean Chrétien very often is that he is deaf in his right ear . This was caused by a bout of polio in childhood which also slightly distorted his mouth, giving people the impression that he talked out of its side like a gangster.
That sort of physical handicap certainly didn’t hurt his political career, and any attempt to mock it usually backfired. Essentially, by paying more attention to his listening skills and ch...
